I searched the web and cannot find any pics of stowage on a hummer. If you have seen the recent Tamiya accessory kit (Tam35266) with the modern equipment than perhaps you saw the box art showing the duffel bags etc. stowed on the slant back.I would love to know how they are tied off.I am used to tanks where there is always a grab bar or something to hold onto.Any assistance in this area is greatly appreciated.Thank you.

I know some of the Marine HMMWV's that we had in Somalia (93-94) had small bars welded to the slant back. I would suggest making something roughly the size of a staple and use that. There were six pairs arranged in a setup like this: Four pairs arranged across the top sort of like this:

Ok, that's a really crude representation, but you get the idea. Four pairs for smaller items to be attached with webbing, rope, whatever they had. The larger one at the bottom of the slant back was for items such as tarps or large bivouac sacks...

Hope this helps.

Tanker42,

If you are modeling an ARmy HUMMWV for OEF I can be of some service... We didn't tie our duffle bags on the back of the vehicles... They were left in the rear with the rest of the gear... We did however bolt small brackets onto the rear slope for rucks and other things like cots, camo nets, ets. If you like I have some pictures of us getting ready to roll out on a mission in Afganistan that I will email you. Drop me a line at thomas.m.sweet@us.army.mil if you wnat some pics...

We had what were called gypsy racks added to the backs of all our hummers. They hung off the tailgate of the hummvee and we put water cans, mre boxes and the like in there to save space inside the vehicle for ammo, radios, etc... I don't have any pics on hand, but once I get back to work, I can see what's in the motor pool.

having had much personal experience with finding way to save space inside humvees. I agree with Ex18B. The hard top Humvees are used mostly by MP, Scouts and Tow missle gunners. 99% of the time we went to the field all our stuff was stowed inside with the excpetion of fuel cans, LSS and Crew tents which where stapped to the back of the tail gate (not an easy task) On one occasion during a CMTC rotation we strapped a spare tire to the roof of the rear hatch using a ratchet strap that was run around the panel sliding through the rubber gasket thats supposed to make the thing water proof (I stress suppose) This is a rare thing though and not done often. Remember that any weight on the roof of the hatch makes it harder ti get in and out of the rear cargo area especialy on the up armored versions. I have seen some units install carry racks to mount 5gal fuel cans on the side of the rear hatch but not the hatch its self.

Hope that helps
