If you can afford the Friuls, I highly recommend them. They are really turning out great. I've got two more washes and the buffing to do on the second side. They are soooo easy, it's unbelievable!

I admire your persistance on the kit tracks, Dwight. They really look good. The one thing I regret about the Friuls is that I had to give up the duckbills! Maybe I'll get brave enough to do them for my other Firefly.

Nice job!

J-Hulk: Thanks for the info. I was just looking at the picture of the completed model on the box and the duckbills are on a straight line that's why I was a bit disappointed. I feel better now. Big Smile [:D]

Phroosh: Yeah some mud will be added once a dio is finished. Thanks.

wbill76: As wipw mentioned, this type is all steel. Thanks for the remarks.

zokissima: Well lucky me my first armor was the Dragon M4A4 witht he same track type so I was intiated rather early.Big Smile [:D]. My thoughts on this is that if you have access to AM tracks go for it. Sherman tracks are "live" and could be simulated quite well be rubber band type tracks. But of course if you think you want to test your patience..this is the way to go.Big Smile [:D]Big Smile [:D]Big Smile [:D]Big Smile [:D]. Thanks for the kind words.

moses: hey, I am glad to hear from you again. How's your baby? Looks like family life is keeping you busy. Well, thank you very much and hope to hear more from you.Smile [:)]

Awesome job! I am by know means a fan of Allied Armor, but you have done a fine job there. look forward to pics with the crew.

Yep, no rubber on those tracks.

Cheers

Nice going Dwight. I shudder to think of even imagining constructing those tracks.

Yup, pretty sure this style of track was all steel.

Bill, I believe these particular tracks were steel, not rubber. At least, that's how I painted mine.

Looks like a great build so far to me Dwight! The duckbill tracks are a nice change of pace from the ordinary and look like they took a lot of effort.

One small question I have is for the chevrons on the face of the track blocks. I know the blocks themselves were rubber, were the chevrons also or made of steel? I've yet to get a straight answer on this one, maybe Shermanfreak can help. Big Smile [:D]

Looks alright to me Dwight. I agree with J-Hulk; I think a little uneveness adds to the look of the tank, and a bit of mud will compliment it nicely. keep up the good work, mate.

Excellent work, as always, Dwight!
I'd say you've done a fine job with those difficult link tracks. I wouldn't worry too much about all the duckbills lining up...I've seen plenty of ref pix that show those things sticking every which way like Mako shark teeth, not to mention pix showing plenty of them missing.

Mike: Thanks. Well I'll be on the diorama soon.Smile [:)]

Maffen: Thanks, too. Patience? Maybe but I really have no choice. I don't have any other way of getting tracks for this one.Big Smile [:D]

Rich. Glad you like it. I just mixed some flat brown and flat black to make a wash.

Tigerman: Well although it is not really obvious, the duckbill connectors are not lining up in a straight line.Big Smile [:D]. Thanks for the comments.

I'm not sure what is wrong with the tracks, they look great to me. As always another great build.

Looks great! Love the "stains" on the hull! Did you just use a "rusty" wash for that? Can't wait to see the Dio! Thanks for sharing!

Looks great Dwight. Can't say I'd be upset if my indy treads would come out as good as yours look. Of course you are your worst critique. Let's get moving onto the dio, I'll be looking for it, I'm everywhere on this forum if you haven't noticed!! semper fi, mike

Bill: Thanks. I agree with you. German armor tracks are easier to do compared to that of the shermans. Regarding the decals, I actually accidentally oversprayed the decals at the side that's why they were goneBig Smile [:D].

Thundergod: Thanks for the remarks. I removed the injection marks using my wife's nail nipper.Big Smile [:D]Evil [}:)]

Nice job, Dwight. You got the decals blended in much better than I did.

I've been working on my Dragon Pz IV J. I've done the bottom run of one side of the indy links. The German links are SOOOOO much easier to work with than the ones for the Sherman/Firefly, it's amazing. They really need to get the tooling tightened up on the connecting pieces and a jig designed for those tracks would sure help.

Looks really nice, Dwight. Congrats on another fine build.

Looks awesome to me. Nothing about those tracks a little mud won't fix. I imagine those duckbills gather a good deal of muck moving around.
Can't wait to see the rest, I always look forward to your work there Dwight.

JOE: Thanks.Smile [:)]

BUFF: Thanks for the remark. I got my first taste of Dragon's indies in my first armor kit (an M4A4) so I was initiated rather early on this ritualBig Smile [:D]. Anyway I am still disappointed with how the tracks turned out so I might find some ways to hide them in a diorama.Big Smile [:D]. Very tricky of us armor modelers huh.Evil [}:)]Wink [;)].

I think your idea is a good one. It will certainly take away the bore and pain of doing the entire track continuously.

Again thanks guys. I appreciate it very much.Smile [:)]

The kit looks great! You're a far more patient man than I am. I got through about 40 links before giving up and ordering from Accurate Armour. It seemed to take forever, and the thought of doing another 100+ links was too much. If I do another Dragon kit, I'll start the links right away and do 5 or 10 every time I sit down to assemble. Hopefully that will take some of the sting out of indy links!

On tracks that is...Big Smile [:D]Big Smile [:D]Big Smile [:D]Big Smile [:D]

Well I finally won the wrestling match with Dragon's 3-piece per link indy tracks for my Firefly. The tracks don't look good to me but anyway here is how she looks for now. The upper and lower hulls are not yet finally set in place.

Now on to the crew, additional details and weathering...and the diorama!Wink [;)]

Comments are still welcome.Smile [:)]
