A Leopard Tank at the Legion
Posted by Anonymous on Monday, July 26, 2004 2:56 PM
I pretty much know nothing about this tank, so if anyone else does, feel free to fill me in!Smile [:)]
I just thought it was cool this big tank sitting in the parking lot, like the guy is going to just take off at any moment.
I parked next to it for a couple, just for an idea of scale. I think I'd win the race, as long as there arent any shells in there!

It looks like a Chieftan tank (UK design) and not a Leopard tank (German design). Nice shots.

If I had to make a guess, I'd say a British Chieftain used by the British Army Training Unit Suffield. They cycled batallion sized armoured/heavy infantry units from the British Army on the Rhine through every six weeks (I think) during the spring/summer/fall. Lots of space to blow things up and do live fire and manoeuvre exercises that they generally couldn't do in Germany.

On the bench: 1/32 Spit IXc

Thanks for the cool pix!
I'd say it's a Chieftain, too.

Yes, that's a Chieftain, although it appears that the turret was somehow modified. Chieftain had a gap between the second and third roadwheel, and that cast turret.

When I was a kid, and we played out Warsaw Pact attacks on the Central Front, the Chieftain was the big bugaboo of the WP forces (usually me and my T62s!). It had this amazing rep of being so heavily armored.

A few months ago I saw pictures of a Chieftain in Iraq (captured from the Kuwaitis or the Iranians?), and it had been destroyed by American fire. Fire from the Bushmaster of a Bradley, that is. The 25 chewed right through the turret armor. I was amazed.

yes its an rsx, and as to the turret, when i was walking on it, there was a spot on there that felt different, most of it was very solid, but one spot on the front had a sort of hollow sound, like it had been damaged and then patched or something.
