helmet color

I've always used MM Grungrau to paint uniforms and helmets...has a hint of green in the gray that seems more like the actual color vs. their German Uniform Feldgrau. If you thinned it down, one bottle should be enough to repaint your stahlhelm.

Field Grey would be a good base color for your helmet. Drybrushed with a lightened color of the base.

A good source for uniform and helmet colors that I use is the Osprey series of books. From the illustrations (artist illustrations) they are indeed more of a greenish-grey color. Again, this is only the artist's opinion, but it looks about right from other sources that I have seen.

I do believe the correct color would be feldgrau (feild grey) which is actually more green than grey.
