I think that tank in Reign of Fire was an M-41 Walker Bulldog. I could be way wrong, of course...but that's what I thought it was.

Rob, will Hulk smash?
That is, are you doing a dio of a scene from that sequence?
Cuz if you are, I'd really love to see it!

Dwight, you were working on one, too, right?

Funny you guys should mention using mini hero figs with military kits. i have a small die cast metal figure of War Machine [black iron man armor] that I was going to use in a 1/35 dio with either my M1A1 or Bradly. The fig is almost an eaxct match for 1/35. They also have Spidey, Iron Man, and a few others in this line. [I have that Hulk hero clix fig by the way as well]. I have been wanting to build the tank from "Reign of Fire" but that would could be a sci fi movie even though the tank, a cheiftan, looked mostly stock...
Yeah but my 2 year old kid played with that hulk figure that I was supposed to use and returned the half upper body onlyBig Smile [:D]. Still looking for replacement...because I couldn't find one that is right for a 1/35 scale.

ARVN did use their M41 Walker Bulldogs in combat. However, when the Lt. was hit by those mortar (?) rounds, he was standing behind a M-48 (or early M-60) which was used in Vietnam by US forces so that scene is authentic.

*snip*

The M-41 was used by the U.S. Army from 1953 to 1963 and never saw combat while in U.S. service. Several were sold to the ARVN and were deployed but apparently were abandoned in the field.

How about if we leave this open ended, so that stuff in progress can be included? Say we have until the end of the year. It might give some who are playing with conversions the incentive to finish them up. Grandpa, check out some of the 60's war pictures -- there are plenty that use 50's-60's era hardware unmodified except for a coat of paint and some markings. I may do one of those "German" Pattons painted in desert colors from the movie Patton!

Hessler's "Tiger" is tempting though .... Then again, Brian already nailed that.

Should I ask the FSM dudes to add this to the GB page, or should we keep it informal?

I know it's a bit OT, but any chance of anyone being interested in a 'What-if" group build. I think it was Larry who suggested it last time as well, or was it someone else?

Yes, the base kit is the Matchbox Challenger since the side skirts, tracks and suspension are very close to what the stills from the movie use. Then the Revell of Germany M1A1 will dress up the kit to bring it into looking like an Abrams.

The Hulk will be played by a Hero Clix figure used in gaming.

This sounds cool.
Movies from any country and era?
And would that include TV shows such as Hogan's Heros and Black Sheep Squadron?
I once saw an episode of Hogan's Heros in Germany, it was dubbed in German.

I've been working on the pseudo M1A1 Abrams tank from the Hulk movie. It is a British tank (Chieftan) dressed up to look like an Abrams. They did a pretty good job, but it looks a little small.

I see it didn't take long for this one to get up, after reading the other posts.

Here's one, you can make a M3 Halftrack into a German one from the movie Sahara and many more movies.

lol, honestly, it's quite funny at some of the 'German' tanks found in movies.

Just out of curiosity, aren't the tanks found in Full Metal Jacket authentic?

This is an interesting idea, I'd be very curious to see how some of these turned out.
I don't think I'll be able to commit to this one. I'm kind of looking at building some Soviet stuff soon.

You mean like this?Wink [;)]

Glad to see my silly post in the Battle of the Bulge GB thread got you thinking!

I'm still working on Guffy's "Sherman," you know...it's about half done (started three years ago!).

I have been wondering when this would come up. I think it’s a great idea and would be lots of fun but I don’t believe my scratch building abilities will let me participate…. so put me down as a maybe.

Movie Armor Group Build
Posted by Anonymous on Thursday, July 29, 2004 9:19 AM
Here's a purely-for-fun group build suggestion. Let me know what you guys think.

1/35th scale models of any vehicle in any war movie from, say, WWII to OIF. (so no Sci Fi). The subject would be a vehicle that is used in a movie to represent a tank, halftrack, truck, etc.

The hitch would be that it can't be an accurate representation! It has to be an M3 painted to look like a German half track, the M47's from Battle of the Bulge as Tigers, etc.

The "Tiger" in Saving Private Ryan would qualify because it wasn't a real Tiger. The build-up would have to represent the actual doctored vehicle in the movie.

This may at times require some scrratchbuilding, but often not -- often the "German" or "Japanese" vehicles in movies are just American stuff painted in different colors.

I think the tanks in Full Metal Jacket would qualify too.

Any takers? If nothing else, it would encourage us to watch some old war movies!
