At least they made an attempt to be authentic, unlike just about every other war movie in the past. Does anyone remember all the m48s used as "Panzers" in "The Battle of the Bulge"? I hate that.

There is a Jagdpanther in a following scene, but the Tiger that is camouflaged is a real Tiger as the gun moves to acquire the Sherman. Have to watch it closely, but it does reverse out of the hay stack to engange the remaing Cromwells and Shermans along with the Jagdpanther.

The only Tiger in runing condition is in England, in the Bovington tank museum. The tank museum in Saumur, France. no longer have a Tiger I that is now on display in the tank museum in Munster , Germany. How ever Saumur have Tiger II with a working engine that was used to record the sound for the Tamiya RC Tigers.

I think the who portrayal of the GI's feelings toward the British stemmed form the fact that they, while Allies, had a sort of compitition going on. Basically each side wanted to be the one that won the war, so the GI's disdain for the Brits was just part of that "competitive" atmosphere, so to speak. BoB the book was basically a collection of info from the US side and had other stories of behavior that made the Bristish seem "like twits". There was one reference to catching a Brit officer having tea with a local woman instead of being with his unit during a battle. It is all just a matter of perspective

OK, heres my My 2 cents [2c]

. As far as I know, there is only one running Tiger I in the world, and thats somewhere in France. it would probably e way too expensive for them to 'rent' the only running 56 ton cat in the world. even more so to weather it properly.

Also, the harlf-tacks in BoB r probably reworked OT-810's. these were the post-war czech built versions, which can be found in use, although 'authenicized' , by many WWII german reenacting groups. they aren't exactly the same as the originals, but they r the closest things to 'em. they were commonly referred to by the Czech's as "Hitler's revenge" since they operated so pourly. kinda strange if that was still relatively good technology at the time. wutever

Regarding "Monty"...

I can't say that I've researched the man's history as thoroughly as others here in the forum, but I can say that I've talked to a few veterans from that war. One of them specifically was one of Patton's men and he had few kind words to say about Montgomery. Yes, he did stall and bluff the Germans brilliantly in North Africa, however later in the campaign there seemed to be a real war of egos and pride between American and British generals. (This bit from my grandafather who fought in North Africa and Italy.) Perhaps it was just his style, and that it was seen as overly cautious by folks like General Patton, but I think with the failure of Market Garden a lot of peoples' patience was exhausted.

PS: Anyone else think that BoB (and Saving Private Ryan) was kinda harsh on Monty, and the British in general? All I know about Monty is that he stalled Rommel in Africa, but in both the movie and BoB when he's mentioned people react like he's an incompetent REMF. And then, as mentioned above, BoB painted that British tanker to be a total twit. Just me?

I'm pretty sure there was another one later, in the episode when they attack the town of Foy. Didn't Spears run right past one?

Regarding the appearance of Tigers in BOB, there is also a shot of the beast in a scene where the Easy Co. took the town of Foy where Lt. Spears(?) ran through the town and back in that sequence to the amazement of the Germans.

I remember the Tigers in Band of Brothers and Saving Private Ryan, and yes they do look like they have T34 running gear and suspensions. Does anybody remember the Tigers in "Kelley's Heros?" Those too had T34 running gear and suspensions. That makes me wonder if they used the same stuff on BOB, SPR and KH.

Just an FYI on the extra video clips touching on the vehicles, it also touches on special effects which was quite interesting.

Yep. There are no real Tigers or Panthers in Band of brothers. There is only ONE working Tiger left in the world, and that is at Bovington tank museum, and they don't lent it for movies. all Tigers and panthers in the series are build on old rusian equipment. Like Kennethc says, the DVD extras goes into this a bit, good stuff.
If you ever get the chance to see a real Tiger I ( I had the pleasure a couple of years ago ) you will notice that its much bigger, has much wider tracks and more road wheels just to name a few differences.

As to the Tiger, that could have been me elaborating on what he said. He asked me a couple of weeks ago to post this and I immediately forgot to do it. When I remembered and posted it this morning it's entirely possible that I forgot what he said. I told you I didn't know anything about armor!

The PZ III base vehicles were built on a British personel carrier chassis that was lengthened by one wheel. The JPanther was built on T-55-62 chassis and the tigers were the tried and trued t-34 85 coversion... The DVD extras goes into this a little

Someone other than I can answer this more accurately, but I believe while some vehicles where the real deals, most (like the Stug and Jagdpanther) were modern vehicles modified to look the part.
And as far as I can recall, there were no Tigers in BoB.

Since Steven Spielberg and Tom Hanks were executive producers, I am thinking some of that equipment was from Saving Private Ryan. As to whether or not they are real, I believe they are built for the movie using Hollywood construction crews and whatever they could find (apparently the lower suspension of the Tigers are from Russian T-34s http://www.slipups.com/items/2813.html)

Band Of Brothers Question

I know zero about armor guys, so take it easy on me.

I was talking with a co-worker about the series "Band Of Brothers" and he mentioned that the armor used in that series appeared to be real. For example the German Tigers and Panzers appeared to actually be Tigers and Panzers and not old American armor dressed up to look like German armor. I'm sure some of you have seen that series, so did you notice the same thing? And if so, any idea where they managed to get them after this many years?
