Afrika korp colours
Posted by Bismark on Wednesday, August 4, 2004 11:30 AM
Quick question for you builders with more experience building AK equipment. Want to try my hand at a AK diorama. Any suggestions as to armour? Also, what brand of paints would you reccommend? Would prefer acrylics with oil washes, but I am open to suggestions. Did a 25pounder field gun once and that turned out pretty good but I forget what exact colours I used.

Thanks for the help.

welcome to the forums, Bismark9.
are you going to build German or British?
was not sure as you mention AK, but the 25 pounder is a British gun.

i use Tamiya acrylics, but sometimes you have to diddle the colors a bit.
many of the gang use Model Master (both acrylics & enamels)
i just finished a Quad & 25 pounder. used a lot of Tamiya's "desert yellow"
(XF-59, i think).

some of the gang can give you a better idea abt what German vehicles served in the AK.
i think they would be grey or dark yellow (dunkelgelb) depending on the time period.
this page does give some good general info for German colors
http://www.achtungpanzer.com/camo.htm
this page has a few paragraphs mentioning which panzer divisions served in Africa
http://www.achtungpanzer.com/pzdiv2.htm
from there, you might be able to search other sites to see what vehicles were attached to these units.

this page will lead you to more Desert Campaign info:

this site has a lot of British Army info
http://www.warlinks.com/
i am sure you can find plenty of info on the 8th in Africa.
use the 'site map' link to navigate.

and another good site for German info:
http://www.angelfire.com/ok/panzerkampfwagon/index.html
and includes this vehicle list:
http://www.angelfire.com/ok/panzerkampfwagon/armor.html

another good one:
http://www.geocities.com/kkh_khan/AfrikaTanks.html

now - to give credit where it is due:
the links above were all found on this link page:
http://www.achtungpanzer.com/ww2lk.htm

good luck & welcome aboard!

Thanks a lot for the info. Holy infomation overload! I will be building German but I did the 25 pounder and the quad a few years ago. Won a few awards with it so it was pretty good. Now to spend the next day or so on research.

Thanks again
