With the wood grain there Buff either get a very small needle or a single thread of hair or from a paint brush and just put a little bit of paint on it and it well give verythin little grain lines that wont look over done or to large as long as you have a small amount of paint and just drag it across the wood in one direction. Nice work on the rest of the model tho.

Buff , any particular Regiment your model represents? I have the DML " Firefly" , and the M4A4, I plan to build as tanks from Lord Strathcona's Horse ( Royal Canadians), in Holland .

Nice work! Keep us informed of you progress. I have a DML " Firefly" at home , and the only thing holding me back , is the tracks. Sherman tracks with those end connectors , and all those track shoes with punch marks in them. I wish someone made after market flexible soft plastic Sherman tracks , especially for the M4A4 series , with the lengthened hull. I managed to pick up some after market flexible tracks , the " cleated type", for my Italeri M4A1, I plan to model it as a Polish Sherman in Europe. As for the flexible tracks , I cannot remember the name of the company. Happy Modelling!

Thanks, Mike. I read your other post. I had my fair share of difficulty with this kit early on. There were major fit problems with hull and the transmission housing. It seemed to take forever to get it all puttied and sanded. The kit tracks were a beast as well. Each track block had ejector pin marks and parting lines. I got through 40 of the 150+ before I ordered resin tracks from Accurate Armour. Take a break from the other one and treat yourself to something easy. Good luck.

I think things are looking well for the Firefly. I am really excited to see it completed. I see you have problems as well in the transmission covers.Tongue [:P]Evil [}:)] and that you opted for AM tracks. Well that was exactly my suggestion in one of my Firefly threads. If you have access to AM tracks...go for it.Big Smile [:D]. Spending so much time on something that have a lot of problems can give any armor modeler too much pain.Big Smile [:D].

Hope to see more.

Your project is moving along nicely Buff. I just posted an update on my current build also, and must say you're having less problems then I'm encountering. I'm also sort of looking for our collegues to hopefully give some input to help me out. As far as I can see on your build at this point, there does not appear to be any major discrepancies I can see, but I know how critical we are of our own work. Keep plugging away, you'll prevail from what I can see. semper fi, mike

Here are some more pics. I've done all the washing, finished the stowage (except for the cam net), and I nearly done the tracks. More about them below. The washes were done with artist's waters, and some pastels where I wanted a grungier look. Constructive criticism and tips are always welcome

The wooden tool handles are a shocker! I tried to paint in the grain, but my brush skills aren't of the required standard just yet. I will fix them before I do the drybrushing.

Here is a shot of the tracks. They were painted in a mix of blue/black/red brown, then washed in burnt sienna water color, drybrushed with blue/black, then very gently drybrushed again with buff. I think they are missing something. I will dust them later when I get the colour for my road sorted. Any suggestions on how I could give them a finishing touch, if needed, would be appreciated.

Thanks for all the comments. I have washed it, base coated the stowage (except for the cam net because I bought the wrong type of gauze). The bigggest jobs I have left are drybrushing, putting on the tracks and building the base. I'm not really happy with the paint on the tracks. Tomorrow I'll post some pics of the tracks and ask for some tips. With any luck, I'll finish before the end of next week.

QUOTE: That green looks great. What shade is it?

It's Tamiya's Japanes Army Green, XF-13, preshaded with black.
Jim, thanks for the tips. I'm hoping they will go on ok.

Very Cool buff, I like that. The Fireflys are a favorite of mine. The just look so neat with that long barrel... They have that "I've had enough of this crap" look to them!

Keep painting pal

Buff,

Hair dryer is definetly the way - it's a little tougher if the suspension moves

If you get into trouble - glue the tracks to the road wheels and form from there

Allied tracks - a little tougher - no sag

Sounds like you are off to a good start (except for the slash)

QUOTE: How are those accurate armor tracks treating you ?

Not too bad so far. They went together ok. I had to cut one of the lengths to get the right number of links, and that wasn't much fun. Cutting them so that I didn't cut off the end connectors was tricky, and I sliced open my finger too! I test fitted them along the return rollers and road wheels, and while the road wheels fit well, the track guides were a little too close together for the the return rollers. I may have to sand down the rollers to make the tracks fit. I tried forming one set around the idler, and it was dead easy. I hope to have them on by the end of next week. If you have any pointers, believe me, I'm all ears!
