A word of caution...be careful buying aftermarket parts for the Elefants. I have a DML and bought a Jaguar set of tracks for it (the DML tracks are wrong!). They were made for the Italari Elefant and fit great on the DML. I bought a set of Aber (I think) fenders for it. They are not marked but are apparently for the Italari kit and do not fit on the DML. I now have a set of Royal fenders and they are specifically for the DML, but man, what a job! Several companies have photo etch parts out for the Elefants, many are not marked for manufacturer.

Good luck

The older Italeri Pz IVs are better kits than the old Tamiya/Academy copies. New Tamiya Pz IV kits and DML Pz IVs are in an entirely different class than the older ones.

I've built both the Italeri and DML Elefants and have realized the DML Elefant is much better than the Italeri kit.

Be picky when picking up the old low cost Academy kits. They're just rehashes of the old Tamiya kits. Some are good...others well.........

Word to Moses. DML has a fantastic kit of the Ferdinand/Elefant. I tried to convert a Italeri Elefant into a Kursk Ferdinand...let's just say I went and bought the DML version and was very happy. Plus, afermarket tracks and barrels look so much better on the DML.

Hey Laxman, my advice is go with DML's Elefant if you can. They are both accurate, but that Italari Elefant is like 35 years old and isn't as well molded and has alot of cleanup to do compared to the DML kit. Italeri in my opinion is not the best company for armor when you have the likes of Tamiya, DML, and Academy out there. Italeri has some nice offerings, and some obscure kits that neither Tamiya or DML offer. But when you can purchase a comparable kit from the other companies rather then Italeri, I would would go with the other.

IF you would like an easy, first build, go with the iterali. If you want a very accurate, but complicated model, chose dml.

italerie or dml elefant?
Posted by Anonymous on Tuesday, April 22, 2003 10:43 AM
I'm debating right now to buy an elefant from dml or italerie. I know dml is a good company but i don't know about italerie. I've heard stories about their panther a and was wondering if this reflects on their other armor kits especially their tiger since its the cheapest one i could find. Any input would be helpful. thanks.
