Is there a photo etched detail set for the Tamiya 1/16 King Tiger?

Hey!!
I've got another contract to build a Tamiya 1/16 King Tiger Tongue [:P] - and while having a look through the RonGeorge photo upload gallery saw some pics of what appear to be a 1/16 PE detail set being used........
Is there a PE detail set for this kit? And if so, where can I get one?
I really don't know a heck of a lot about armour, so any help will be greatly appreciated,

Cheers, LeeTree

I have not been able to find one. I have looked, and have come to the conclusion that the best option is to purchase some of the PE sets for the 1/16 Tiger 1. At least the parts for the bosch light, and tool clamps can be used. I think Aber realized that the Tamiya 1/16 KT was going to be a challenge to correct.

I am not really sure if this kit is going to be worth detailing. Tamiya included many visible screws to hold the model together and the lower hull has no real detail at all. I think I saw the date of the mold on my kit was from 1982. Of course I might be wrong, but after studying the kit, I saw a lot of missing or crude detail.

Anyway, good luck and let me know what you end up doing as I can use all the I can get for my beast.

Anyone have any ideas where the Tiger 1 PE set can be found?
I'm really new to building armor and have no idea - give me something with wings or 4 tires and I'm in my element - but something with treads? It's a challenge.
Thanking you in advance..............

I too have been searching high and low for a 1/16 King Tiger PE set to no avail. I've come to the conculsion that this kit is okay for those who are into RC, and not particularly concerned about detail, but not for the serious static display modeler.

However, when it comes to the Tiger 1, that's another story! Here are a couple of websites. One is a company that carries a wide range of Aber PE, the other is a review of the Aber 1/16 Tiger 1 PE kit.

Now, if I could just find someone who makes an interior detail set for the Tiger 1!

Just did a followup check to make sure those links were good. Couldn't get the second one to open using that address. However, you can still find it by going to the this one and following the links. Sorry about that!

Lee,
Try www.airconnection.on.ca They handle Aber and the site features pics
of the separate frets ... I've done 2 King Tigers & they are a lot of work!!
Lower hull & access hatches can be scratch built, after bypassing the
screws and epoxying the torsion bar mounts to the metal hull, make
final drive housings or get em off Tiger I sprues , scratch build rear fenders,
tow cables from 2mm.cable,all new nuts&bolts, rear deck screens from
window screening,ETC,ETC,ETC!!!! Plus the Henshel turret does not have
the correct offset for the main gun...I chose not to correct that, however.
Tiger I sprues have much better tools,& I would reccomend trying to get
them from Tamiya rather than trying to make em from scratch
You gotta really love the ole King Tiger to tackle it!!!

Hey - thanks a bunch guys!
It's a good place to start - and after having previously built the Porsche turret KT, I agree - Tamiya sacrificed detail for durability ----- I thought that the level of detail was disappointing and was surpassed by many 1/35 scale kits of today............
But the thing DOES have the "WOW" factor - spartan detail aside. It looks great when it's carefully painted and weathered - errors aside.
I'll look at the links and I'll get what I can - cost isn't a problem - it's the client's money! He wants it, so he's going to pay for it! A luxury I don't often have........
