M4A1 finished pics
Posted by Anonymous on Wednesday, August 18, 2004 12:59 PM
Hi all
Well here it is my first sherman and 4th armour build. Its an Italeri M4A1. 1/35.
I hand painted it with Humbrol OD and also hand painted the markings except for the hull no. Needs a little more weathering here and there but im happy with the way its turned out. Had to add the skirts because of the track broblems that come with the kit.
Please tell me what u think and i would appreciate any and all tips, critiques and comments on the build.

on one of the monte,s in um Italy

Thanx all.

Keep well.

Looks pretty good. The tow cable looks unpainted though. It should be a rusty metal color with the ends OD green amd the tie-downs the same as the hull color. Tracks look a little loose too. Pretty good for only your fourth armor model. keep up the good work.

Artorious,

Looks like you put a lot of time and energy into recreating one of your beloved SA pieces. Nice job! The only suggestion I would have is in regards to the left fender and skirt. On the first pic the skirt doesn't sit level up with the hull and you can see a gap between the skirt and the hull itself, a little bit of putty and sanding would fix that right up. Same with the front left fender matching up to the hull, there's a noticeable gap (maybe intentional?) there also.

I particularly like the attention to detail on the stowage as well as the subtle weathering. Not sure what additional weathering you are planning to add, but the current look is nice and subtle, especially with the dust on the lower hull being muted somewhat because of the side skirts. Add a little dust to the wheels themselves to tie in the dusty running gear look and you'd be set IMHO.

Good luck on #5, what are you considering for your next project in SA colors of course? Big Smile [:D]

No real negative critiques above what has been already stated. I do like the subtle shading on on the overall paint scheme. It give the thing a very like like appearance, especially in the B&W backyard diorama photo. Well done.

Thanx for all the comments. About the gap: At the moment i dont hav any putty on hand and had to try with the glue witch didint work to well so when i can organise some i will address all those seams. Initially i did not want to put the shields on at all but the stupid trax made me.
Upcoming projects are: M10; converting a Centurion to Olifant (Border War) and of course a scratchbuilt Casspir. Then concentrate on Cuban and Angolan armour. t-34's; 55's; pretty much anything Russian used in the BW.

Thanx again.

Keep well.

Craig The build is nice but i really like the painting. The Green looks very well discolored. How did you go about doing the faded blotchy look. Other than that I can only echo whats already been said.

Super build.

I agree with the good painting! Well done. Now that will really look great on even a simple base or groundwork. That's just a suggestion though.

Keep it up.

Very nice work, Craig! The overall effect is very realistic.

The only comment I can add to those already given is that the bezels around the lights on the front of the hull (hmm...do we call those "headlights" on a tank?) seem to be painted the same silver as the glass lenses themselves. I would recommend painting the bezels the same color as the hull.

Again, niiiiice work!
