sd. kfz 234/3 help
Posted by Anonymous on Wednesday, August 18, 2004 3:35 PM
I have the Italeri model of this armored car and the booklet that comes with it says it was not used in africa, but this site -http://www.bbwargames.co.uk/pages/afv_gmn.htm- says it was! the request for the kind of vehicle was made in 1940, so if it wasnt, it took a longgggggg time to get manufactured! the reason im asking is that im building a Tunisia diorama and i want to know if i can use it in it or not, and did the crew wear the panzer, all black uniforms?
(my comma key is broken so i have to hit it really hard to get a comma)
thanks

The Sd. Kfz. 234/3 did not enter production until June of 1944, long after the DAK had faded into history.

European Armored Car crews wore standard black panzer uniforms, as well as the whole gamut of other clothes common to panzer troops, i.e. reed-green, splinter camo, mouse-gray, field-gray, etc. DAK Armored Car Troops wore the M40 or M42 Tropical Tunic in the faded-olive / khaki color range.

Were -any- of the 234 series armoured cars used in Africa? They were designed
for use there AFAIK.

This 8-rad was used by the Afrika Korps, the SdKfz 263:

The Sd.Kfz. 231(8 wheel), 232, 233 and 263 all served in DAK. The DAK fought it's last battles on April 28th-30th, 1943. The Sd.Kfz. 234/1 did not go into production until July of 1943, even though the first prototype was delivered a year earlier.
