Early D Panther - Command Version (Pics)
Posted by crockett on Saturday, August 21, 2004 9:18 PM
Here's my "D" Befehlungspanzer. It's DML with a Rubio guntube. Antenna mounts are scratch built. Figures are kitbashed. Finish is Tamiya acrylic. I'm building all the Panther variants, this is #2 in the collection.

Thanks for letting me share - Steve

VERY nicely done. I really like the camo job. Subtle summery weathering. Got that.."yeah maw were headed to this place called kursk......yup..... I'll write you when I get back" feel to it!...Big Smile [:D] Props to you pal...

Very nicely done. How did you paint your tracks. I like the heavy dusty lower half, but you might want to add a bit to the upper hull and turret too.

Eric,

Funny you should ask about the tracks, I shot them first with thinned MM gunmetal. Then a buddy ( a railroad guy) turned me on to a big jar of Pactra acrylic "weathering". That's the name of the paint. When mixed it is extremely thin and about the color of a chocolate milkshake. I shot some on a practice piece and I was really impressed. I dialed the airbrush down to about ten pounds with a number 1 tip and misted the tracks, suspension and lower hull until I got the light dusty look I was after. I would highly recommend this paint, I will use it in the future and I hope to get more.

Great build! I need to look into the Pactra weathering paint. Did you pick it up at you LHS or mail order it?

Looks good! the figures are very nice, and the paint job is superb. One very minor thing that I saw was the spare tracks. IMHO they look just a little too clean. Overall a great build and i look forward to seeing a lot more great builds come out of your workshop. thanks for sharing.Big Smile [:D]

Hey erik,
thanks for the feedback buddy, I can see that a lot of spare track on serving german armor is "rusty" lookin, but the reference pics of this tank, heading into Kursk, a day off the railhead, show the blocks to be fairly new, just with a little road dust on em, so that's the way I built it. Again, thanks for the feedback, most people don't offer constructive criticism-but, I appreciate it. That's the way I learn.

Beautiful Panther Crockett. Theres nothing I can say that has not already been said. She's just a really nice job, tank, figures, camo, weathering. Also thanks for the info on the Pactra Acrylic Weathering paint. I've had some experience with the Pactra paints and I like working with them. Look forward to seeing more of your work, it's very good. semper fi, mike
