Not much choice out there if you do not want to mess with enamels, I guess. Well I plan to order the pollyscale so I will post if it works

Like you, I also struggle with finding the best matt paint. Right now the best I can get is Humbol enamel matt. It's very matt and works fine in airgrush. The only down side(also the worst) is it's enamel, quite toxic and you must have good ventilation and respirator. So far acrylic matt finish paint like Gunze,, Tamiya and Microscale all fail.

Going to have to try the polyscale. The Testors Laquer dull coat gave me the same satin finish that the acrylic did

I ran down to the LHS today and they didn't have and of the Pollyscale. I am going to try the spray Testors Laquer dull coat. If that doesn't work, I guess I need to put together an online order

QUOTE: I may try out the pollyscale- did you spray it or paint it?

I airbrushed it. I think I diluted 50/50 with Tamiya thinner. There was a thread in the painting forum about this, but I didn't bookmark it. That's where I got the tip on the Polly Scale. Like I said, it worked a dream. I had tried the Future/Tamiya Flat Base, but never got it to turn out. I always ended up with a white film, no matter what ratios of each I used.

Actually, the Panzer uniform is more of a mix of black and dark gray acrylics. I did brush the paint on and it looked fine. The problem came afterwards- I have Verlinden's Uniform badges for the collar patches. I had to use some future to make sure the decals didn't silver. I then sprayed up a really well shake mist of Acrylic MM flat. I wonder if the laquer flat would harm the acrylic? I may try out the pollyscale- did you spray it or paint it?

I also use the MM rattlecan dull coat and have never had any problems getting the flat look with it on either vehicles or figures. I paint with enamels for everything though, so that may be the difference if you are using acrylics.

I used Polly Scale flat on my last kit, and it came out dead flat every time.

I find with MM paints that if you use a brush, you need to dip brush first in some thinner and drag at the edge of thinner bottle then dip into flat black paint. This will cause it to flatten, but when you dip into paint don't dip to much just a little. Also when you spray brush it use a 3 to 1 mixture. The one being air brush thinner. You may what to check if you have it stired up good with nothing at the bottom, this is a must.I use nothing but enamels so I hope this helps. One other thing, don't thin out your paint to much this will also cause a satin like finish.Digger

I would stop using your airbrush, and brush the black onto the figs. It could be that the paint is too thinnned or it has be applied in too much of quantity.
Also, I dont paint my panzer crew with true black, I use a blue black. You can barely tell the difference and you will not get the Zebra effect when drybrushing.

and on the last note, Have you tried spraying a dullcoat on it?
Oh, and, its not GLOSS black is it? Dead [xx(]Big Smile [:D]

I use MM flat lacquer in a spray can. I've noticed that i have to shake it up very, very good for a true flat finish. But even then it does not always come out completely flat. I can only say for me, it works more time's than not.

A true flat finish

My failed attempts to get a true flat finish on my Panzer Tank commander has forced me to ask a question- How do you guys get a true flat finish (I usually give everything a shot of MM Acrylic flat. Works great on the armor, ut for some reason the black uniform wants to have a satin finish to it, not the dead flat you see with fabric)
