This is a common complaint with this kit. The M88 Vietnam era one came with photo etched headlight guards because of this. You can try to fashion one out of styrene strip or PE fret leftovers using the kit part as a model. The actual guard is just a series of flat metal strips.

Currently I am putting together AFV's 1/35 M-88A1. So far it has been a perilous journey. Warped parts, vague instructions and now the light cages. They are so encased in sprue and flash that I have all but destroyed the front cages Disapprove [V]. I still have the back ones to go. Any Ideas, suggestions, or does anyone know if a photo etch set is made for this?
