How's this for weird....

My wife suggested we go to Battleship Cove in MA yesterday. While touring the USS Massachusetts I came across the Aviation Display, and this little creation jumped out at me....

The description under the model...

Airborne G.P. Vehicle

Don't Laugh. Don't Mock. It Worked.
anticipating the need for vehicles to
accompany paratroopers when they
dropped behind enemy lines. This
contraption was tested successfully in
England. The advent of the Cargo Glider
elimanated the need for the part Jeep-part
autogyro.

I LMAO when I saw this and the description. Just thought I'd share.

Seem's there was a conversion for that thing in the late 80's early 90's.
I saw one of those kits at the san diego air and space musium and one of the members told me about it (the kit that is).

There is a life-size one of those at the Museum of Army Flying in Middle Wallop, England
(I can't remember if it is an original or a replica).
It's certainly a very weird-looking contraption.. if you built a model of one and took it to an
IPMS exhibition, would you put it in the Aircraft or the Military Vehicles class? :)
The Russians tried something similar with a light tank in the 1930s, but this was just a glider,
not an autogyro.

Another question - what's the yellow 4-wheeled vehicle above the autogyro-jeep?
It looks like some sort of armoured car conversion of the Kubelwagen. I'm sure it's a Kubel body
and that looks like an open-top MG turret on the roof. Maybe it's a post-war Czech type? They adapted
a lot of German designs for their own forces after the war.
Looking at it closely, actually the turret looks pretty much like that on the Russian BA-20 armoured car
(other than the open top) so maybe it's something the Germans improvised during the Eastern Front campaign.
