Culemayer trailer?
Posted by knoxb on Tuesday, August 31, 2004 1:45 PM
Nuts&Bolts Vol. 12(Famo) has 1 picture on page 17 of a Famo towing a 60cm Morser on a 'culemayer' trailer. The trailer is hard to see. Looks like small road wheels and NO tracks. I thought these would be 2 cool models to put together in a simple diarama. But I would need a little more info on the trailer.
Anyone have any info or pictures?

Is this it?

4 Culemeyer transporters were used to move the 60cm Karl Gerat 040 when it could not be moved by rail or under it's own power. The mortar was broken-down into 4 loads; the barrel, the upper carriage and cradle, the platform and loading assembly and the self-propelled chassis. I can not find another photo and I'm not even sure what this one is.

Change the spelling to Culemeyer and punch it into Google, you'll get a bunch of stuff. Here is a 1/35th kit Verlinden offers;

I get the feeling there is more than one type.

Here is a photo of a Mini-tanks one;

Thanks for the info. There appears to be two 4-wheeled units, or two
6-wheeled units. The Nuts&Bolts Famo photo clearly shows 4 wheels on the left side (not 6 wheels). Unfortunately, the 'load' is covered by a tarp.
Any suggestions on a diarama? If the gun was transported in modules, which module would be most interesting; the chassis, the gun,???I have not purchased the Morser kit...yet. Nor have I seen it. Does it lend itself to the modular transportation suggested?

Good question. I don't own one of these behemoths yet. And at $80 a pop for the VLS trailer kit, I don't think I'll be buying 4 of them anytime soon, plus the 4 Famos and the 60cm Morser [:0] I don't think I'd be willing to cannibalize a $60 Karl for the parts for just one load.
I do have one of the Hasegawa 1/72 scale ones and that might be a bit more manageable, assuming one can find a 1/72 scale trailer and Famos. I think this would be a neat looking diorama, having them setting all this up. Plus I think you would need a gantry crane to assemble the thing!
