whatever floats your boat tigerman... but if you built a SP gun that was used in the Bulge it would count for both builds.

LOL John. I may back out of the Bulge Build even though I don't want too. If I do, I will be in on this thanks to the generous timeframe. I might feel under less pressure to finish.

I'll tentatively sign on since it's got a December-April timeframe. Not sure just yet what I'd like to build for it, but should be able to fit something in during that time. Big Smile [:D]

Those were just a suggesttion tigerman, but I went back and looked at them and I think I'll bump the dates to Dec 20th to April 20th if this gets a rollin.

I think I'm going to change it to German Self propelled gun Gb

Sure, now that my Marder is half way done............ my fault really. I did have a bunch of distractions. Oh well. Unfortunately for me the date doesn't reall work, the Bulge build will interfer, and I need to get some builds done.

The more focused, the better, so long as you are also able to attract enough participants to make it a viable GB. Generally speaking, you will likely get more takers for a German SP build than for a Tamiya Marder III M GB. (This is just an example, the reverse would probably be true in reality since the Tamiya Marder III M is a very popular kit). Big Smile [:D]

you guys made some really good points. Since I wanted to build the marder III M, Maybe we could have a Marder GB, including Marder 1's, 2's, and 3s, of all ausfs.
Just my opinion. I could just as easily buy something else though,

I agree with you there Dwight. A GB needs to be focused to realize the most potential. It can be tightly focused on a specific kit like the 1/16 builds or it can be more open to a specific class of vehicle, but setting the theme too broad introduces too much variation an dilutes the commonality of the build among the members.

Rebel,

I'd recommend going for a definition that is specific enough (scale, time period, Axis or Allied, primary vehicle type, etc.) that retains that common factor but still allows some room for individual preference in the realm of PE, kit manufacturer, etc. There isn't much to be gained from a GB where people can build anything from a Panzerjaeger I to a US 8-in motor gun carriage... especially if you only have a small number of participants to begin with.

Well not really. I just set that as an example of limiting the types but it could be like that if the members agree to it. Also maybe it could be themed like SPG in Kursk, Ardennes, Market Garden...But actually I would prefer a very specific subject such as Panzer IV Chassis Based SPG or an 88mm Gun carrying SPG for example.

The point maybe is to have a commonality among the subjects. Afterall members join a GB to build while learning through comparing with the works of others as far as accuracy, camo scheme, version elements/components, etc. We get guidance that way and it would rather be difficult for some new modeler to build a unique subject from the rest of the members and having noone to compare works with.

Again just my thoughts.Big Smile [:D]

Good idea.

My suggestion though is perhaps it could be narrowed down to a more specific type or types(ex. Based on Panzer IV chassis, Russian SPG, etc.) By limiting the subject into a specific type or types the discussion regarding references, kit problems, AM and PE, questions will be somewhat focussed. This gives the opportunity for questions of each members to be addressed properly. If for example there are 50 types that could be entered and the flow of discussions (as well as the available resources and references) are concentrated to a few of those types only, some members will be left out. And if those members are also newbies...it could be difficult for them to keep up on their own.

A good example of this is the Sherman and Panther GB. Since the subject is almost limited, the GB starter/ moderator was able to address properly and eqally all concerns of the members.

There has been a lot of (forgive for being blunt) recent GB's lately that were started covering a wide range of subjects...so wide that the GB starters/moderators are finding it hard to keep up with the members' concerns leaving some members doing the kit almost on their own (meaning the availablity of information from the GB was very scarce or none at all for particular subjects).

Since the primary purpose of GB's is basically to assist modelers to build by pooling the available resources (references, tips, etc.) and making them accessible to the members by way of the GB thread, then I think we need to address this issue when starting the GB.

But hey these are just my thoughts...Big Smile [:D]

My model for the Young Guns GB is a 75mm armored car howitzer thing going on, but I've only got one of those. Good idea though, nice change from the tanks.
