A STRYKINGLY Beautiful Vehicle!!!!
Posted by Anonymous on Tuesday, September 7, 2004 9:10 AM
When is any company going to do a kit of one of these beautiful STRYKERS? I really dont have the experience to scratchbuild or even kit bash an LAV-25 to make one of these. Hopefully one day soon a manufacturer will do one, I guess I will have to wait. But here are some pics you all can enjoy till then. These pics were taken outside next to the U.S. Army Ordnance Museum on Saturday. They are also posted on my reference topic in the reference forum. Hope you all enjoy. Bryan

I'm sure it's only a matter of time until that happens. Took a while for the LAVs to be released, so it will probably be a little while longer until (if) we see one of these in plastic.

Looks good, too bad the vehicle is not worth the alluminum alloy it is made out of. It is really rediculous when you have to put ancient bar armour all over a vehicle to make it somewhat resistant to RPGs. The vehicle is not survivable at all. The troops hate it too. It only has a .50 cal for its largest weapon system as well. Compared to a Bradley, it is woefully lacking in both crew protection and survivability. It is only about as survivable as an M1114 uparmored HMMWV. I am probably starting a whole new debate here, but it is an inferior vehicle.

I think in the context of survivability, this vehicle is not meant to be a main battle tank. Designing a scout/light combat wheeled APC that would be impervious to the RPG is, well....impossible. Even the mighty Abrams can be stopped by an RPG if the shot is in the right place. To say that the vehicle is inferior is really not valid. In Vietnam, we functioned with the 113, and RPG's would pop right thru. The idea is to not let a gomer get within the kill zone. This thing has it's place on the battlefield. It is airmobile, and as a TOW platform is lethal. It will protect infantry from small arms and medium machine guns. That is what it is designed for. We need light armor mobile mechanized transportation in today's world battlefield scenario. Aircraft, artillery and rockets can destroy it, but, never the less, it serves a vital need.

Survivability is a key issue in todays urban environment. There are too many places for Haji to hide, and as a result, kill shots on this vehicle are more easily scored. Yes, in an open environment this vehicle would probably work well. As for conjested narrow people filled streets, this one is a looser.

However, we at the same time must remember that the bradley was a big track jumping POS when it first came out. Those early Bradley guys were very proficient at breaking down track. The M-16 was also a big looser when it first hit the battle field. With time I am sure that the short commings of the Stryker will be fixed. Until then, I'll walk thank you! LMAO

With the direction that todays army is going, we will see this vehicle for many years to come. The powers that be want a light highly mobile force that can be deployed within 72 hours.

I agree that no vehicle is totally impervious to RPG or other weapons. However, when there are better vehicles out that are more mobile, more heavily armed, and more heavily armored, why are we using one that is inferior to them. The Bradley or even an uparmored M113 with passive armor on the sides is better than the Stryker. I have seen them out here at NTC when they were tested, and they performed very poorly. I know we will have to live with this vehicle for some time and it will get better as it goes through upgrades, but we have soldiers going into combat , and dying, in this vehicle now. As I am one who could possibly be put into using this vehicle, it worries me that it is being billed as the new super APC. I still don't like it.

Gino,
One of my co-workers son is in the Stryker Brigade in Iraq right now and all I hear is how much they love this vehicle. They have had several attacks and while they have lost a couple of vehicles, they crew survivability rate seems extremely high. His vehicle was hit by a roadside bomb but no crew injuries.
I am not saying that this vehicle is the end all but it seems to be doing its job.

As a former 19K (M-1 tanker ) turned aviator, the thought of going into battle in that thing makes my skin crawl....

A model of the Stryker , and its variants ,would be nice . The only vehicle , that comes close, in plastic , is the LAV 25 Series , by Italeari , and Esci .I would like to see a kit , of the LAV 3 , , or the Coyote Recce Vehicle, used by Canada. As for these vehicles' merit on the modern battlefield , or in urban combat , only time will tell. I just like to build models of interesting AFV's.
