Very nice dio. The results, on the ice perticularly, look very convincing.

Thanks guys.
It's a III from RevellAG. The snow is baking soda set in Bindex. I have since tried to seal it with Future to give it a little sheen but don't like the results. I lost a lot of detail on the ice and the AB blew the drifts a bit. No problem, I'll just add some more snow once the layer dries.
The Future did have one good effect on the ice; you can put lines in it that make very convincing 3D cracks. They would be good on the underside of the plexi.

the best stuff I've found for simulating snow is Epsom salts (magnesium sulphate) a powder available from the pharmacy/drugstore/chemists/call it what you will.
Spread some Elmers glue & sprinkle the salts on top. it'll take a while to dry, but has a great 'sparkle' finish to it that looks very like snow/ice.
Word of warning; this stuff is used to erm...make you go.. is a polite way of saying it, so always wash your hands after use, it's very effective!

I think its awesome Jeff. One hell of a moment caught in time. Bleak, cold, windy and not where you would want to be. You did it all.

Nice Diorama , you have captured the " feel" , of the cold Russian winter! Speaking of snow , we had our first snow fall in Fort Saskatchewan , Alberta, last night!

Hey, nice job! Sorry, I can't give you some input. An Army At Dawn was a good read. Does anyone know when he's coming out with the next book. I do realize that the Iraq War side tracked him.

Awesome. Is that a III or a IV?

Looks great, ausf. What did you use for the snow?

Oh, and it's always great to see Comical Ali. He's actually not on administrative leave. Tongue [:P] He's in some Arab country, but he wasn't considered to be at all a threat, so we are just ignoring him.

It's kind of like when Lector calls Claric Starling at the end of The Silence of the Lambs -- he tells her that he's not coming after her, as the world is a far more interesting place with her in it. Laugh [(-D]

The idea is that the panzer became stuck in the fall heading east. Four months later and frozen over the ice is providing passage for the T-34 west. A change in the seasons, direction and war.

You mean this dio is not finished? It looks good to me ausf. Sometimes simplicity says a lot. By all means, add to it if you want, but I like it as it is.

I'm from the government and I'm here to help.

I'm putting this dio together, trying to get the look of snow on a frozen lake orstream bed. The inspiration is from the prologue of Rick Atkinson's 'An Army at Dawn'. He puts the Russian Campaign in a simple perspective: First four months, Germans captured 3 million Russian soldiers and were within 65 miles of Moscow. Four months later, 1.5 millions Germans were dead, wounded, captured or incapacitated by frostbite.
Here the focus is on the second four months.
1/72 on plexiglas. still working on the snow and have to detail the builds a bit.
