No personal experience with them, but I've read several other opinions that say they are very hit-or-miss. Some castings are really well done, and others are not. I've been eyeing some of the conversions there too, the LAVs and the AT halftracks mostly...One of these days I'll give them a try, just to see for myself.

If I read the AEF website correctly, the kit KA-110 actually is the armor we're looking for.....$32.50. Anyone seen a review of this kit or have experience with the company? Quite a few of those other resin sets look interesting, too......

Hobbyfan do a resin interior set HF 057 it is on the PMMS website under new releases.
Good luck in obtaining it. I already own the recovery HEMTT conversion set and the M-9 ACE from Hobby Fan and they are second rate. Also if you want to go to town stowage wise like you see them in OIF take a luck at AEF designs (www.aefdesigns.com) they have two excellent sets that really look impressive on the kit.

I hope this has been some help to you frustrated AMTRAC fans.

QUOTE: Hobby Fan makes the add on armor for about 110.00$

I've seen that too. How can anyone justify spending that much for a set of add-on armor. The price is crazy. I personally don't buy aftermarket resin items because the prices are usually too high, in my opinion. I can usually scratch-up anything I need. The passive armor blocks don't look too hard to do. Or you could get the Trumpeter version with the passive armor included. I have heard they are a bad fit, but you should be able to modify them to work. And hey, the whole kit only costs about $30.

Kirin made the resin armor, but I believe it is long OOP. Tamiya makes a later variant, the AAVP7A1 that includes the up-gunned turret, but no side armor. It is still readily available and not too expensive. I just won one on eBay for $9.99.

I know you can order the sprues from Tamiya for the AAVP7A1 to upgrade your LVTP7A1. Just call Tamiya USA and ask for the sprue letter and kit number. It is kit number 35159, but I do not know the sprue letter off hand.

Ah Ha! Another poor soul searching for the interior for the amtrac! Unfortunately, there is not an interior out there (as far as I know). A bunch of us have been searching for one for quite a while. I believe there are a couple of kits for the add-on armor, in resin. The manufacturer escapes me right now. Welcome to the search party, if you find something, let the rest of us know about it!

AAV7 / LVTP7A1 update set?
Posted by AH1Wsnake on Friday, September 10, 2004 1:03 AM
I have a tamiya LVTP7A1 kit (USMC amtrac) and want to bring it up to modern standards. I am looking to up-gun the turret to the 40mm grenade launcher, add the front bowplate, and add the ridge-like side armor panels. I know there is a seperate vehicle kit that incorporates all these features, but would like to know if anyone knows of an update set for the mods only. Also, i'd like to know if there is an interior detail set. My searches online have turned up nothing. Thanks
