Replacements for indy tracks...?
Posted by knight667 on Monday, September 13, 2004 6:15 PM
Okay, so I absolutely dispise indy tracks...they make my head hurt trying to assemble them, and my patience gets worn very thin. However, I've found that AFV Club and Accurate Armour make vinyl replacements for most kits (sort of like what Tamiya kits come with). Has anyone had any experience with these, or any other brands for that matter?

I used Accurate Armour resin tracks for my Sherman Firefly. I thought mine were very easy to form around the running gear. I heated them up with a hair dryer and they formed really well. The difficult part, for those particular tracks was cutting them to get the right number of tracks. They come in a series of 20 or so tracks molded together, and to get the right length, I had to cut one of the series. I had a hard time cutting the track pads off without cutting off the end connectors. If you're doing another type of track, I don't imagine that would be a problem. I thought the Accurate Armour's were well worth it.

I take the easy way out and use either ModelKasten or FruilModel tracks. I have used AFV indy tacks and they are good. I never ever use kit tracks (vinyl or indy).

I just finished a DML M4A4, and used AFV T-49 vinyl tracks. The tracks were a bit tight, but with care they stretched out some. These seem a little softer than tamiya's. Also, I might not have gotten the rear idler mount in the right angle/position. This might have caused some of the tight fit. I would use them again.

I go with Fruilmodel. You cant beat the realism of metal track links. Model kasten are also excellent but, they are still plastic an require somewhat more meticulous assembly. Check the fruils on the panther in my sig
