Another work in progress..for the past year and a half..Panzer III L
Posted by Moses on Monday, September 13, 2004 7:12 PM
Here is another project I had sitting in my cubboard for ages and never had a chance to finish when my wife was pregnant (My daughter is 10 months old tomorrow Tongue [:P]). This is Tamiya's Awesome Panzer III Ausf. L kit and it is build almost out of the box with a few details from Eduards PE set and MK tracks. I just added the Milliput tarp on the rear last night and will be doing ground work so more weathering will be done. Especially on the wheels, tracks and lower hull. The sandbags was a fibble effort but I was trying to represent a Panzer III L from the 10th PzDiv in Tunisia #7. Hopefully I will complete this by the time by daughter is 2 Black Eye [B)] Comments, suggestions and criticisms are much appreciated.

Cheers

Mo

The tank looks great. I would like to see it when you finish it. I especially like the look of the tracks. The sag looks very realistic. What colors and technics did you do on them to get then that color? Very nice

wow!!! That's awesome! You did an excellent paint job on that.. weathered very well... I am an airhead but have been thinking on some armor lately and I like the looks of that kit... I might have to look it up...

Great job!!!

Kit looks really good! Nice build. Just my opinion, but it doesn't need a whole lot of heavy weathering. Just a good drybrushing and some pastels, and it's there.

By the way, the sandbags don't look "fibble". (Whatever fibble means Big Smile [:D]Tongue [:P]Big Smile [:D])

I hear the Panzer III by Tamiya is a great kit to build--almost on the order of a "shake and bake kit". Did you find that the kit went together pretty well? If so,
I WANT ONE! Smile [:)]

Keep buildin' em! Of course, I'm encouraged by the fact that you seem to have your priorities in order with your family...Wink [;)]

Real nice job Moses. Like the guys said, the paint and weathering seems to be just about right. Maybe just a touch of drybrush here and there, but it really doesn't need much. The tracks are very well done, there's not much of anything I can find exception with. Your skills are a few steps further along then mine, so there is something to be learned from your work for me. The tarp no doubt will really finish up nicely when painted and weathered. Thanks for sharing your work. semper fi, mike

Thanks Thermage and Ym. Appreciate the comments. I hopefully can get the tarp painted this weekend and give another drybrush run. This kit has actually sat in this painted form (sans the tarp) for almost a year a a half.

Cheers

I still have my III about 3/4 finished in grey. I like the Afrika Corp paintjob. What paint did you use? It is a very nice looking kit indeed. Just one question. How's the driver going to see through that sandbag? Wink [;)]

Yet another excellent piece of work Mo...the weathering has that perfect balance to it, not sure what more you would do with it, it looks great as is. I've built two of the Tamiya Pz III kits and they do go together very smoothly, I grant you that. Big Smile [:D]

very very nice. I agree with all of the above, I think that the weathering is just about right. Your tarp will look sharp when you have it done!

Thanks guys. Wildwill, since I did these sandbags, I have been practcing doing them and have gotten much better. I unfortunately superglued these on already and said screw it, I am not taking em off Black Eye [B)]. This is by now means a show piece, just a nice little project to practice on some weathering techniques.

Thanks fightnjoe and zokissima. Like I said earlier, the Tamiya Panzer III L is just a joy to build. I highly recommend it and it builds fantastic straight out of the box. I really wish that Tamiya will release some new Panzer III variants in the near future, most preferably a Panzer III J or M/N Blush [:I].

Cheers

It does my heart good to find out I'm not the only one whose modelling projects get delayed by family priorities.Smile [:)] Aside from them not appearing very full, I think your sandbags look good. Indeed, since I've not seen photos of German sandbags, I'm hesitant too even offer that criticism. The surface finish of them looks like dirty, weathered cloth. I also like your tools. The handles look properly wooden. Once you finish the tarp's surface finish, and add the base with the additional dirt on the tracks, you'll have a really nice Panzer III. Impressive.

Thanks Larry and ABARNE. Appreciate you both taking the time to post. The sand bags came out ok. It is essentially Milliput Superfine textured with a hankerchief (compliments of Shep Paine). Thanks again guys.

Hey Crocket, there is basically some Verlinden stowage under there (Fuel Drum, 2 crates, and some ammo). I was originally going to not use the tarp as all teh stowage is painted and weathered, but it just didn't look right without something over it.

Cheers
