                        Does anyone know of any reference that describes/includes photos all of the official variants of the Sherman?

                        i.e. One that when I see M-4A42E-23 i could look up and see what that is and be certain there would be an entry.

                        The Sherman Bible is called:

                        Sherman: A History of the American Medium Tank

                        by R.P. Hunnicutt, published by Taurus Enterprises in... 1978.

                        ISBN0891410805

                        Probably out of print though, but your local library should be able to locate a copy for you...

                        You can find used copies of Hunnicutt's book at Barnes and Noble, but the cost is totally prohibitive for my wallet. I use two Squadron Signal production books, "Sherman in Action" and "Sherman Walk Around". I also have a few small paperbacks like "Patton's Tanks" and "D Day Tank Battles" etc.

                        The Osprey book about the M4 Sherman is also a good reference and not too difficult to find.
