Panther G pretty much finished (Photos)
Posted by Anonymous on Thursday, September 16, 2004 8:09 AM
Hi guys, I stepped away from the 109's and spits to finish the Tamiya Panther G early version kit. It has sat unpainted for a better of two years until a few nights ago I got tired of seeing it in that state, and decided to paint and finish it. I used the same process I use on the aircrfat kits to finish it. Preshaded with hull red, post shaded with a brown and black diluted mixture, and lightly drybrushed. I really enjoyed finishing the kit and I hope you like it to.
Cheers
Anthony

Excellent weathering job. What are the leaves made of on the hull?

Oh, and I need to ask about the pre-shade with Hull Red. Was that color choice specific to just this camo scheme or do you use that color with all paint jobs? Just wondering what effect it would have under RLM 65 or 76, if you use it.

Anthony,
looks great! well worth the wait.
i like the foliage added on, and the muted 3 color scheme is fantastic!

i know you did not ask - but it looks like the track on the right rear
(between the last two outside roadwheels)
is going up a bit instead of lying flat.

very nice build & excellent execution on the painting!

I recommend the hull red for desert colours such as dark earth and mid stone, but not for light blue or greys. For these colours I would use either black or dark grey. The hull red is good for dark yellow vehicles.

Thanks for posting, and for the painting tips. I'll give it a try on my Panther!

That's what I use when I pre-shade blues and grays. I thought maybe I was missing out on a technique or something. I am going to try the hull red method on my next desert kit

One more question for you. I really like the looks of the faded camo. Did you just drybrush it out? If you drybrushed it, what paint and mixture did you use? or did you spray a dust coat? Sorry for all the questions, but I REALLY like the looks of it and I have a Dragon Panther with a similiar paint job waiting in the wings

Wow, looks really great. The paint finish and weathering effects are very good.

Are you planning to leave off the vision blocks (periscopes) on the commander hatch?

For the finish I used a combination of Tamiya and Gunze acrylics. The matte coat is Tamiya Flat Base mixed with Johnson's Shine Magic, which is similar to Future.

I think they were from a small fern. I cut the ends off and painted them. They are real, most small plants such as those you buy for holidays have these added to them for filling the boquet.Big Smile [:D]
