Academy 1/25 Panther G
Posted by Strathcona on Monday, September 20, 2004 3:00 AM
Hello fellow tank enthusiasts! Has any one built the Academy 1/25 Panther G? Is it a remake of the old Bandai 1/24 Panther? If any one has this kit , I would appreciate , your input on it's quality .
Thanks , Frank

Hi, Have built the Ausf. G here awhile back and it was a fairly nice kit. I filled in under the area over the tracks with sheet plastic so it wouldn't look so open and all went well. The only major gripe I have with the kit is those d------- one-piece rubber band tracks. Really hard to get the 'sag' correct with them other than using CA or tying them down with thread. It would be real nice if Fruilmodel would make a set of their very fine white metal tracks for it. But other than that it was pretty much okay. It's also too bad one of the major PE makers hasn't come out with a detail sheet for it yet either.

Take care, Sgirty

Howdy, Frank!Smile [:)]
The Academy kit is not a copy of the 1/24 Bandai kit; it's a copy of the 1/25 Tamiya kit updated with some new stuff, like the G hull and other details.
Too bad there isn't any AM stuff for it, like tracks!

Was there an issue with the shape of it? I can't remember where (or if) I read that

You know, I came within an inch of buying this kit the other day, and the only thing that held me back was those rubber band tracks! I wish they would do something similar to what Tamiya did when they released the old 1/25th Tiger back in the 70's, for those of you who never built the Tamiya kit, the tracks were Indy and snapped together using integral molded pins, they were great. I will not spend money on this kit until I can get a hold of some decent AM track.
