King Tiger gun

I am doing a King Tiger for the Battle of the Bulge build. I want to get an aluminum barrel, but there seems to be two types available at Squadron for the Hentschel turret:8,8cm KwK 43/2 L/71 and 8,8cm KwK 43/3 L/71. Any insite on the differences or which would be appropriate for a late 1944 Hentschel King Tiger? The tank I am planning was with the 501st

It'll be interesting to see the answer to this one...I have no idea what would be different on them since they have the same caliber length at 71, at least in the designation.

Well, the pic on Squadron, so I have no idea what the difference is. Has to be something, you would think, or they wouldn't make 2

I'll take a shot at this , because i've ask the same thing. I have the jordi rubio kwk 43/2/l71 in front of me. This is the "early type" one piece barrel. The difference between the two is "2" is a smooth barrel[one piece]. The "3" is the later "two piece" barrel, with a reduction in it. I have a pic. in front of me that has both type guns on two porsche turreted king tiger's. I can't remember seeing one piece barrel on a henschel turret. That is not to say there was not, but I would use the kwk 43/3L/71 because in the squadon cat this seems to show the two piece in the pic. The one piece was harder to make than the two piece is why the later ones were two piece, I think. Also i believe the kit has the two piece type in it.My 2 cents [2c]

P.S. the simple answer:
kwk 43/2/ L71 Early smooth barrel [one piece]
kwk 43/3/L71 Late Reduced barrel [two piece]

I checked out your question in the Achtung Panzer site. The Henschel turret used the 2 piece barrel. So if you're building a King Tiger w/Henschel turret I suggest you get the 2 piece barrel. Good luck.

Keep in mind that very few Porsche Kings were fielded with the mono barrel.

Thanks to all of you. I looked through a couple books and it only referenced the 43/3 L/71, so CASE CLOSED
