How are Zvezda Armor Kits?
Posted by derekms on Thursday, September 30, 2004 7:05 PM
I am interesed in some of Zvezda armor kits and wondering how well the quality of the kits are? I build mostly aircraft kits and know some of the Russian manufactures are lacking in quality.

Thanks,

It varies from kit to kit. Some are reboxed Italeri kits and others are someone elses. I built their BT 5 and really had some troubles with it, but it's okay looking now that it's complete. They're hit and miss.

I've built a couple of the reboxed Italeri kits, and wasn't very happy with them, plenty of sink marks and flash.
Wayne I enjoy getting older, especially when I consider the alternative.

Some of the latest Soviet armor at first appear to be reboxed Dragon kits. At closer inspection, the look like knock offs, close copies but not as crisp.

A couple of their original kits like the T-26 and T-34/76 are really nice kits. Others like the T-60 are a waste of glue.

I have a PZI from them and an Italeri Kit as well. They are identical except the directions are in Russian. If that helps at all.

As per the above comments, Zvezda has a lot of reboxed kits from other manufacturers, so the quality is hit and miss, depending on kit being build.

I'm in the process of writing an OOB review of the BTR-80 kit. Watch this space for it.
