How many would like to see a different Handomag?
Posted by diggeraone on Monday, October 4, 2004 12:22 PM
Last night as I was researching a project on the Handomag,I found some 30+ different vareitions on this veilicle and was wondering if ya'll would like to make a different Handomag then the standared production.I will try to attemp to scratch build one with the IR package as soon as I can find more material on this type. What I have seen so far the Germans just about addapeted the Handomag to do anything. From anti-aircraft,anti-tank,arttilery,cargo carrier and a flame thower to a line of modifications that would take all day to write or type.
So what do you think and could we let it be knowen?Digger

Well Digger , it seems AFV Club and Dragon are releasing many differnet versions of the 251. I see Dragon is releasing an A, C and D versions. Some come with 3 in 1 to allow you to build different versions in the same package. I see a new AA version, one with a 75mm Pak 40. If you want to create your own, power to you man. I just don't have the time or patience myself.

Diggeraone, I suggest the 251/8, the ambulance version. Both the C, and the D, versions are easy to do, as it is a plain halftrack without the troop seats on one side. Whatever you do, how about letting us know what you make, a review of sorts. I'm not going to do any 251's for the next year (but this won't stop me from buying any kit's though ...) but I like to check out other's work.

Good luck!

Rob,will do.I have some more research to do and find it interesting that the Germans mounted an 88 pak 43 to a Handomag.I thought of doing this to,also the driller which was three 40mm machine guns mounted on the back.My original ideal was a search light which they did for mobble AA guns and tanks. This ought to be fun with any thing I do on this,I just wish that manufacturers would bring out more varieritions then just another Tiger I tank.Digger

I would like to see DML release a 251 , with the IR Searchlight , to compliment their IR Panther G. A 251 , with the 75 mm AT gun , would be nice too !

An 88 on a hanomag? I would love to see that one! I thought those were too heavy.
I have seen however a power turret (20mm) from a wrecked aircraft mounted on a 251/1. That was awesome!

Nitpick: it's "Hanomag", not "Handomag". No "d".

Dragon have released the '3 in one' Ausf D that has the 251/1 Falke with IR Gear - I won the kit at my club's raffle on Saturday - and it also comes with IR gear equiped grunts. That can also be made with the 251/9 short 75mm howitzer, in the late raised mount, as opposed to the early one on offer from Tamiya.

DML's Second '3 in one offer' builds up as the standard infantry carrier, the 251/7 Pioneer version as well as the 251/10 3.7mm Pak 35/36 armed vehicle (low gun shield).

Then there is the 251/22 Pak 40 armed one coming from both DML and AFV Club.

All I want is for someone to do the 251/17 Lufwaffe 2cm Flak test vehicle to make me happy.
