More quarter scale news
Posted by Anonymous on Wednesday, October 6, 2004 11:30 PM
Seems like manufacturers are starting to look at 1/48th as a viable arrmor scale. I guess because all the heavy panzers are now available in 1/35th! Laugh [(-D]

Ok, enough cheap shots. Besides Tamiya, Skybow is also getting into quarter scale armour -- check this baby out:

With Zimmerit, no less! Looks like a real nice kit straight out of the box, doesn't it? Thank God they are FINALLY getting a clue about Zimmerit!

There's also an early version in the works. 1/48th is looking purty good ....

Sorry if this is old news, guys. Tamiya won't dominate 1/48th any more than it does 1/35th! Smile [:)]

Larry,
the 1/48 is cool, and certainly makes for interesting dio possibilities.
but does the world need the Tiger in ANOTHER scale ?!?!?

Look on the bright side...you know they are committed to it when they start making the Tiger AND the Sherman in the same scales. Tongue [:P]

When I first got into modelling, I was completely taken aback at the apparent total lack of any 1/48 armor. Considering the proliferation of 1/48 scale aircraft, this trully was a surprise. It's really good to see manufacturers exploring with this 'new' scale, as it is very welecome. Imagine the dio possibilities Smile [:)]

I think it's great for the modelling community. But, I'm afraid that my wife might use my remains for a diorama if I venture into anymore scales. Semper fi, mike

I just ho-hum to 1/48. After building 1/35 for what seems forever, I'm not going to change my habits.

I'm not quite sure if I agree about the diorama possibilities. How many practical dios feature both aircraft and armor? As a kid, I had a most fanciful aircraft duel in my bedroom's ceiling, all in 1/72 scale. It never even occured to me to have my Airacobra diving in for the kill on my Tiger.

In 1/48, the size necessary to have a Sturmovik attacking a Tiger or a Stuka killing a T-34 in a real, quality diorama would seem to be prohibitive. It seems like the main use of an aircraft, would be as battlefield wreckage.

If they are indeed doing 1/48 tanks for diorama possibilities, what's up with the 1/25 scale? I that is the common scale for automobiles, but how often do tanks and cars mix it up? Aside from the idiot who lifted the M-60 from the National Guard Armory in San Diego, CA (an incident I came surprisingly close to being involved in), I see fewer good dio possibilities in that scale.

I for one welcome the news....you could do (if you have the space) some interesting dioramas with these....I can think of some ways to mesh the two....

Sorry to ressurect this thread -- I forgot to point out that the main reason I posted on it is because another manufacturer is getting into quarter scale for armor. I wonder if quarter is the wave of the future. Could a conversion by Dragon be far behind? [:0]

One thing to make me pause if I were to get into 1/48 scale, would be a presumed lack of pe and am parts for that scale.
