Paint on rubber tracks and polyvinyl
Posted by espins1 on Friday, October 8, 2004 10:46 AM
Do I need to prep rubber tracks or polyvinyl caps before I paint them? I've heard that paint doesn't stick to those materials very well. Any suggestions are much appreciated. Thanks Cool [8D]

Well, as with anything, just wash them well in mildly soapy water and rinse. I've painted Tamiya, Model master, and Citade (warhammer fame) acrylics onto vinyl tracks many times with no problems. I've tried enamels as well, and didn't have any problems.

Zokissima is right. Clean them with dishsoap in water and dry them. I use Model MAster Acrylic and Tamiya paints with no issues at all.

Enamal paints tend to have more bite than acrylics. so if you have any trouble with the acrylics you might want to try a basecoat of enamal.

On a side note, I forgot to mention, but we've had this discussion before, and I remember someone stating that enamel primer, especially if delivered from a rattle can, has a tendency to almost remain tacky. It's something I've not experienced myself, but might want to keep it in mind.

I agree with you all and I use dawn dishwashing soap to clean the tracks.Digger

I've had a couple of nightmares with vinyl type tracks. I suspect the secret is in the pre-washing. I find it happened with those nasty vinyl tracks that come with 1:72 kits ....you know the ones ill defined 3mm to short and a hell of a job to join !!!!! I HATE THEM !!!!
