Jeff, good idea, I think a humvee group build is an awesome idea. As for the body armor, not everyone has the I vest, some have the "ranger vests." Depending on active duty, reserve, rank ect. I have noticed that the higher the rank the lighter the vest gets. Rank has its privelages I guess. LOL

I assume when you said Iraqi figure you mean an insurgent as opposed to regular Iraqi Army (Old Regime). As such the main pionts to look for is a figure with loose cothing dark-ish or para military trousers, head dress not realy an issue but some wear Shamagues (not sure about spelling there), red and white being in fashion. Footware should be open sandles or flip flops. Weapons well if you are looking for sniper you could go for a Draganov, failing that an AK or even an M-16/M-4. RPG would be good for an ambush, or even have him about to detonate an IED with command lines.

As for Hummers I think they would be a good subject for a Group Build, I have been over here in Iraq for a few months now and I aint seen two Hummers the same, you name it its hanging off one. I must get some reference photos.

QUOTE: I also know of another DML figure kit called "US Sniper team".

The above set is great in detail and subject matter, however, they are of Operation Desert Storm vintage with older PAGST body armor, not IBA. They can be mixed with torsos from the Modern USMC kit to get modern troops with IBA. You can mix the torsos from the USMC kit (or Verlinden's torsos w/ IBA) with any of the DML modern sets from ODS timeframe to get OIF figures.

Well, DML (Dragon) makes "Modern US Marines" which has four figures that are Marines in Iraq. I have the kit and as always the figures are outstanding. I also know of another DML figure kit called "US Sniper team". I don't have it, but I know the detail and quality will be great.

Dragon Modern US Marines has IBA. Also, newer Tamiya M2A2ODS, M1A2 and HMMWV kits come with crew with IBA. Verlinden also does a set with IBA clad torsos.

I think i've settled for the ICM kit, especially since its on sale for 1/4 of the regular price. When i'm finished i'll post it, but it might take a while considering i don't even have any of those kits yet, and i do not have too much experience building modern vehicles.

Verlinden makes everything that you need. There are US soldiers and Iraqi's. The dress is different for locals between Iraq and Afghanistan. Verlinden makes two sets of Iraqi Nationals, Arab street curiosity is one, and Arab street anger is the other although they have no weapons. Also, for soldiers the Tamiya or especially the Dragon 1/35 scale modern infantry sets are excellent. The only problem that I can see with these sets is that they have the older style LBE, which some soldiers are still using over here, and they have no camel backs. The Verlinden sets have these "modern" features.

Im sure he means outside of the hummer , in an ambush am i right? ICM makes an Afghanastan set that comes w/ Americans an a group of Afghanies w/ RPG,s and what not theyre are a few companies that also make many afghan type figures, the middle eastern look of the figure should be convincing.

You can try Verlinden. Not sure if they have any thing but it is a start.

Best of luck.

iraqi soldiers kit
Posted by Anonymous on Friday, October 8, 2004 3:53 PM
I am interested in building a a diorama of a US Hummer armament carrier, but would like to have some iraqi soldiers or just basic iraqi militants to have in it, especially some sort of sniper. I cannot find anything. Does anyone have any suggestions for a kit i can get (1:35 scale)?
