Zimmerit Question

Gotta agree with Rob and Moses. I have used both and they both are great and both have pros and cons.

Awsome job with the zim Moses! I'm also a big supporter of home-done zimmerit. I use squadron putty with tamiya zim tools. It's a mess and smells really bad, but the results are worth it. I might just convert to polyester putty because of how great Moses's can out.

I am a big advocate for doing Zimmerit yourself. Rob mentioned some great alternatives, such as Cavalier or Atak resin Zim. I have had great success using Tamiya's Polyester Putty and Tamiya Zim tool. Gum Ka's Zim tool is also very good becuase it contains a rounded tool that is perfect for areas that are not flat. Below are some work that I have done using Tamiya's Polyester Putty and Zim tool, it is very easy to do. Zim-it-rite will offer similar results and you can get it at www.rjproducts.com

If you go the "create your own zim" route, Moses is really knowledgable about the how to. Make a post for him and he can let you in. I used the Cavalier zim that Rob mentioned for a Tamiya mid-Tiger and it is very nice

Easiest way is to use Cavalier thin resin zimmerit. Many vehicles have specific Cavalier sets for use on. Verlinden also does the same thing but with photo etched zimmerit.

There's also a water soluable putty called zimm-it-rite or something like that. You can wet it with your finger while forming it. There are also several tools to get the right pattern. Verlinden, Tamiya, Gum Ka, and several others make zimmerit tools for a variety of vehicle type patterns.
