Tamiya 1/16 scale "full option" Tiger I

Yup - I believe it was a National Guard M60A3 in San Diego. If he hadn't high-centered it on the Jersey barrier he might've gotten a lot further. Apparently the guy was going to go wreck a hospital he had a grievance with. Took a brave trooper to get up on top of the tank and shoot the guy.

Cader28, that was an M-60 (A3?) in that crazy chase in San Diego.
I don't know about the States, but here in Japan that was (and still is) shown on a regular basis. "Only in America!" kinda thing. That happened in '98, right? Sheesh!

Back to the models...

I've built that machine, and it's WONDERFUL! Aside from putting in one of those torsion arm holders backwards, the assembly was very very straightforward, and I've had a great time buzzing around in the back yard - getting scale mud all over the thing. Snapped off one of the smoke ejectors already, but it looks like battle damage. And the sounds are incredible! If you've got the money, they don't get any better than this model!

You could always just steal your own tank from a depot... oh wait, that already in California a few years back; not a good turn out

Yes you can get an M-60A3 BUT you have to represent a friendly(?)
Foreign military OR represent an accredited military museum.I read a few
weeks ago that Egypt had been offered 200 to 500 (I'm not sure of the numbers) for around $300,000 ea.

I have built the full version of the the Tiger and it went together pretty easily I have to say. And this is coming from an aircraft modeler. It went together pretty straight forward and I really didn't have to much trouble with it. It would have been nice if they actually told you how many track links each track should have instead of just showing a picture of how the "sag" should be. Trosion bars were a bit tricky to figure out, but once I did they went in pretty quick. Have some of your own tools. Bigger screwdrivers helped a lot and the allen wrench they give you is a bit too small to fit the screws.

The thing is a blast to play around with!! I had it up at a local hobby shop where they were redoing the sidewalk. It tore through the dirt and rubble just like a real one and looked really cool throwing up dirt.

Hey, the Army sells used tanks? Sure would like to have an M-60A3...

I saw the price of them and considered picking up a used real tank from the army.. Not that committed to modelling juuust yet. Besides, my girlfriend would skin me alive.. :D

I have both kits, and you really can't compare the level of detail. The much newer Tiger I is incredibidly well detailed, and much thought has been put into hiding the necessary screws and other things necessary for RC operation. The T II is a great kit as well, but it lags far behind the excellent detailing and engineering of the T I.
I'm thinking of getting the Pershing, too...where am I gonna park that thing?!?!

Have'n built that one, but I've just completed the Tamiya 1/16 King Tiger ll (static display version) and am impressed.
The fit is typical Tamiya - everything fits perfectly and there's no "tweaking" of anything needed. The only real mods I made are are cleaning up of mold likes (the mold lines on the tow cables are a real pain) and filling the screw holes in the side skirts once they were glued on.
The handles on the hatches are molded solid, so I cut them off and replaced them with brass wire.
All in all, I found the level of detail comparable to a good 1/35 scale kit - not nearly as detailed as I would have expected - maybe because the thing needs to be a little more "robust" than your average kit because of the R/C needs.
In all, it's got perfect fit, easy to assemble, and looks very impressive. I think it was worth the money paid.
