Tamiya Panther G late progress(interior shots )Warning big pics !
Posted by spector822002 on Monday, October 11, 2004 7:23 AM
Just posting a few pics of the progress so far on my panther , so far I have just about finished the installation of the CMK drivers set , and am working on the aber FuG5 radio set ( front details and wires not yet put in ) . The Cmk kit is very nice , the details are crisp with no sinkholes, although it takes some fiddling to get the parts to fit correctly , and the resin parts are very brittle , some are also pretty small making use of a dremel to cut them free without breaking them difficult at best ! This kit also comes with many (50 plus) eduard PE details which is nice as well . The instructions have been pretty good on this kit , A big problem on other manufacterers resin kits in the past for me , usaully I have to check lots of ref pics to find parts locations, not too bad in this case .anyhow enough yappin' ,.....pic time . And this is the "wiring" plan for the aber radio kit , which I have yet to do ,but intend to , I also have to get another radio for the command link as this is going to be a command tank , so it needs an additional radio set( FuG 7, or 8) in the fighting compartment as well . You may notice the engine in the back which was from another manufacturer TMD if I remember correctly , I bought it for my jadgtiger a ways back , but I think I am going to put it in this model instead , (same engine maybach HL230 P 30) tell what you think and if any mistakes may have been made here , I am a big boy and can take the criticism !Big Smile [:D]

Digger,

Don't forget to plug up the coax port and eliminate the weapon on the Befehlungspanzer version! - Also if you have a reference for the modified ammo storage of the command version I hope you will share it. I looked high and low and couldn't seem to find one.

Progress looks great, I can't wait to see the turret-

Yea the PzbefWg version has the additional FuG 7 or 8 radio in the storage rack area to the side , eliminating one entire rack of ammunition , 65 shells total instead of the usual 81 of the regular panther G I am inthe same boat as you in the pic dept however , there doesn't seem to be any on the net that I can find and there is no pics in any of my books . I also need a decent pic of the Fug 8 radio set , is it similar to the Fug5 ? Thanks for the heads up on the coax also ! Also does anyone know af an AM version of the infrared searchlight ( the one slated for the F )?

I have a few on my HD from various sources , all of them are from regular combat panther tanks unfortunately for me , but they may be useful to you . If you would like I could e mail you some that may be of interest .

Wow, what a spectacularily detailed build. I wish I could give some cunstructive criticism, but it's clearly a superb work in progress.

Hi Spector:

I was just looking at your pictures. Great work! However, I noticed something peculiar. Are you building the final Panther G Production with Tiger 1 wheels? The reason being is the Maybach Engine you got posted is using Tiger 1 and later Air Cleaners. I may be wrong. You may have better references. Can you confirm this please?

I am building the CMK Mayback Engine and it doesn't have those type of filters for Panther G.

Again, great work!

Pretty impressive Shawn. With that kind of detail it sort of makes you wish there was a way too see throught the tank. Great job you're doing. keep us posted. Semper Fi, mike

Are you referring to the square aircleaners?
If so The Panther used both. The square part actually fit over the round part you see in Spector's pics and were supposed to keep ouy larger debris (leaves etc.) but were unneeded after the screens were put on.
Regarding the Tiger wheels: The wheels were not interchangeable as the hubs were completely different and the Tiger actually had smaller wheels. The only way they could be swapped was if the tiger hub was also used and I have not seen this in the 480+ Panther images I have on my HD and most of them are wartime. Of course that doesn't mean it didn't happen.

Spector,
Great work!...
I'm also working on a Panther A right now and have 2 Panzer IV's (with Verlinden Interiors) on the work bench....What detail kit(s) did you buy for the Panther Interior/engine? I'd like to do an interior on mine too. I jus ordered some indy track for it....I can't wait!

I used the new CMK drivers interior set for the lowers ( running gear etc ) right now I am doing the side ammo racks in the fighting compartment . kinda togh getting the ammo lined up on each rack to the next but I think I have a system down for this part of the scratchbuild . The turret part of the fighting compartment I am not sure of , so I have a detail book on order to get that as correct as possible , ( I don't want to botch this one up at all if possible ) The engine is the correct one for this tank, HL230P30 , it is the tank workshop tiger II engine , which is the exact same engine as was in the panther G, the square covers around the aircleaners should be easy to scratchbuild , they will be going on later , have plenty of time as the modelkasten late g tracks have been on backorder for 3 months now . I may just go with the WWII productions tracks instead anyhow , they are just as good if not better , if the wait goes on too much longer . On the interior set , as of now I would go with the jaguar or verlinden sets as there is no fighting compartment set as of now , it is in the works I hear !
