which lacquer do you use?

I am sure this has been discussed many times, but I see 'Future' mentioned so many times for use as a seal lacquer as part of our finishing process for our tanks, I have used TamiyaTS-13, which is a clear lacquer, I assume it is acrylic based, it does not say on the can, i have always liked the finish I get with this

is Future ( I belive it is called 'klear' in the UK) really that good, say compared to Tamiya TS-13, is there a distinct advantage in using Future?

this is my guide for painting my tanks:

1)pre-shading
2)Base colour
3)Camo
4)buff (for dust on tracks etc)
5)detail paint(shovels etc) + decals
5b)clear lacquer seal (be very subtle with this, dont over spray, just a touch)
6)wash (Sepia for panel lines, bolts, barrel end, smoke dischargers etc, + burnt umber/sienna mix for larger panel areas)
7)dry brush
8)pastel chalks for exhaust stains, rust etc, OR real rust mix
9)final buff spray (desert yellow if desert panzer, or sepia if other tank, to tie in all colours)
10)pencil detail (chips, metal work etc)

This is just MY guide, I might play around with sequence at times, depends on tank/type of finish I am looking for, might add more rust after dry brush for example

Dave Klear gives a gloss finish so it is used as a sealant and basr for decals etc. not as a final coat ... unless you want a glaoss tank? Its advantages include can be used straight from bottle, can be sprayed, its acyllic based so can be thinned, it can be removed with water and best of all its CHEAP (you can tell I'm a Scott). All that said I have still not used it but, its fisrt thing on my shopping list when I get home!!! Not realy heard too many downers on it. We use to use it on the toe caps of our shoes to give them a high pollished look, but thats going back a few years and it was a bitch when it cracked!!!! was better just to stick to spit and polish.

Thanks Jeff,

Tamiya TS-13 is a bit glossy as well, so I use it at the half way stage as in my sequence, I will give it a go for my Panther, instead of TS-13, see if there is much difference

I think you will still need to use a Matt Finishing coat to tone is all down.

Hi Dave, Like your sequence, however, it seems to me that you would want to switch 5a and 5b. I prefer to apply a gloss prior to applying the decals. Then spray on a flat coat, add your weathering, chalks stick better to flat paints, and put on you final flat top coat to seal everything in. Just a thought.
Happy modeling

Hello, I use Testors Dull Coat. I am partial to the spray can but it comes in bottles as well. It is very forgiving and hard to mess up. It seems to give Tamaya paints a deeper color. I discovered an accidental weathering technique when I spilled alcohol on a freshly sprayed tank and it gave the water spot / dulling effect of dryed dirty water. It looks very real and if you don't like the result just spray another coat of Dull Coat over it and it disappears. Future is an excellent clear gloss coat for decals or glass but I have never had a use for it on Armor models.
