Taking a look through The German 88 Gun in Combat, yields several photos of 88's in Italy. A lot of them show only overall Dunkelgelb or with only sparse camo jobs. Here is a photo of a rather unusual one;


Note that the camo pattern on the end of the barrel doesn't continue on the rest of the barrel, although there appears to be a pattern on the fenders and tool box. The pattern is most likely Rotbraun stripes brushed over the base coat of Dunkelgelb, a common pattern in Italy. It could also be that the barrel was salvaged from a wreck, hence the different pattern than the rest of the gun. Or maybe the beer rations came in that day?

what would be an authentic colour to paint a german 88mm field gun used by the paratroops in italy 43 onwards?
