Just to address a point raised by galloping gerty, the colours on the tactical signs (red, yellow, blue) reflect the seniority of the regiment and not the seniority of the squadron.

So the senior regiment on an armoured brigade would carry all tac signs in red (triangle for 1st Sqdrn, circle for 2nd Sqdrn, square for 3rd Sqdrn). The No. 2 regiment would carry yellow tacsigns, and the junior squadron would carry blue tacsigns.

Hope this helps; cheers.

Thank's for the info on this. I always wondered about these markings. The kit I had in mind is the Marine M4 for Italeri. If I recall, it has an option for the A2 engine deck. I'll have to recheck the hull angle though. The forum is a great help. Thanks guys.Smile [:)]

The red triangle represents the squadron based on the british system...Diamond HQ squad.,red triangle A squad.,blue square B squad.,green circle C squad etc.
There were other various unit serial numbers and troop numbers on the tanks.
Presently modelers will have to convert the tamiya M4 Sherman (#35190) with either Verlinden Productions (#333) or tank workshops (#008) hull conversions. The Tank Workshop also make a engine bay detail set.

If you're building a 1/35 kit, be aware that the Sherman III's (M4A2) that were fielded in the Italian theatre by the UK and Commonwealth forces were the earlier 60 degree hulls and not the later 47 degree hulls like the Academy or DML recent kits.

The Academy and DML M4A2s were almost completely sent to the USSR.

Historically, if you're using either Acad or DML kits, you might consider staying in the Eastern Front versus the Med.

Hope this helps.

Hey guys, I just found that picture at Ron's site and it is not mine. So please don't give me credit for it.

It is a very cooool scheme for a sherman, though.

This is a great scheme.I've never seen this before. Does any one know of any other references/pictures etc. of this on the web anywhere? I have an' A2 just waiting for something like this. Is the red triangle the only marking? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

These colours are from an article on the Mafva site :
http://www.mafva.org/britishcamo1.asp
by Mike Starmer and Mike Cooper

Khaki-Green aka SCC7 Mix: Humbrol 150+186 in ratio 4:1+touch black. Humbrol 86 is a fair faded match

Light mud is really SCC5 (Standard Camoflage Colour 5). Humbrol 84+ Humbrol 72 + Revell 45 in ratio 6:2:1. Humbrol 187 on its own is quick and effective.

Blue-Black is SCC14. Mix: Humbrol 33+67 in ratio 4:1 or straight Revell 9

Now these are colour matched to actual samples, so should be lightened a little for scale effect in 1/35th. Hope this helps.

Are you talking about this scheme?

Khaki-Green, Light-Mud and Blue-Black. I mainly use Tamiya colors and no such equivalent for the said colors but I am not sure about the other brands. Mixing your own might be your best shot if such are not readily available.

Good luck.

Does anybody know the correct colours used by the Commonwealth and possibly British 8th Army Armoured forces in the early battles for Sangro,Orsonga,Cassino etc.I beleive a blue/black disruptive pattern over a mud or green base however Id only be guessing if I picked a shade!
Any help greately appreciated.
