Kevin, I highly recommend doing one. You really get to know some members well and it's all low key, with great assistance and support. They are to me an inspiration. The information shared is as they say in those obnoxious commercials....."Priceless".

Group build is a great idea . We actually tossed the idea around at work. The subject vehicle would be the M113 . Each vehicle depicting a M113 that we served on. Most of my Bud's are Infantry , but as a " Tanker" , I had a M113, when I was in Assault Troop , in Recce . Kind of like Infantry Pioneers , but in an Armored Regiment . Infantry, or Armored , we all had " Center-fold Girls ", on the inside of our " Tracks" , to boost moral! LOL !
Now were to get those " Center-folds" in 1/35 scale! Happy Modelling!

GB's are wonderfully tortuous things (especially if you are a procrastinator) but also highly motivating and inspirational at the same time. As the others have mentioned, GBs are built around a theme, specific kit or range of kits, or broad time period depending on the desires of the facilitator and group. They usually have a definite start and end time and a badge is awarded by the facilitator to the participants depending. Ideally, it's a great way to share in a common build experience and leverage shared resources and methods along the way. It's excellent for raising the bar and pushing the envelope as well as providing a great opportunity to form relationships with fellow modellers, often scattered across the globe, in a way not possible through ordinary means.

Anyone can start a GB and, depending on the rules laid down, anyone can participate. It's pretty wide open as to how each GB is run and there's no set-in-stone rulebook for their conduct.

Thank you Robin and Jeff Gunn. Are there time limits to a GB, like a completion date? It sounds like a fun thing to do!!

Yes, finally the Red Sox won….I live 20 minutes North of Boston…..and can still remember the 1986 WS against the Mets, I was 13 or 14 yo.

Robin, I read your profile…..have you heard of a WAM (wide area munition)? In college I did a co-op with Textron Systems (defense contractor for the Govt.) and we tested the WAM (anti tank devise) at FT. Devons….this was back in 1997. Amazing weapon!

As per the replies above, a group build (GB) is just a thread where modelers come together to build a specific subject, at the same time. It's a great way to share your experiences and receive good feedback. Definitely something you should try out!

Kevin, it is a really good way to get into the swing of things in the forum....also you can get alot of great ideas and it sometimes gives you a push into doing something different...I highly recomend joining a GB...after all what the worst that could happen Wink [;)]

A group build is when modelers build the same or similar models and post their in progress and completed photos on the web to share. It can be as simple as everyone building the exact same kit (like the Tamiya Marder III), or everyone build a Sherman (any manufacturer or scale), or even something based on a theme like build a vehicle used during D-Day.

Yes, living right outside of Boston, I'm glad to finally see my beloved Red Sox win the World Series!
