Track Help Please
Posted by pmm736 on Monday, November 1, 2004 6:56 PM
Is there a trick to putting together Italeri's 'Link and Length' tracks? I'm currently working on their 1/72 Churchill Mk III and I'm having so much trouble with these tracks( along with general fit problems) that I'm ready to throw it out the window. I have a couple of other Italeri's waiting (which I bought before starting this one) and I'm dreading starting them. Any tips would be greatly appreciated.

I wish I could give you some good tips on assemblying indy tracks but my own experience is very limited. The key though is to not try and assemble them all at once. You also want to be sure and wash your links in warm soapy water to ensure that all the mold release is washed off the tracks. Also, clean up your indy tracks of any excessive sprue at the points where the tracks will be glued together. Ideally they should just be able to barely make contact with each attaching point to be glued. So far as assembly goes make yourself a simple fixture of a straight rule or length of wood, or anything that you can use as a guide for keeping the tracks aligned as you assemble them. You can tape or glue the rule or piece of wood to any flat surface. Just align the right or left side of the tracks against the guide (rule or wood) and glue the track pieces together at about four links per session. As you approach the sprockets of the track assembly do not glue the sprockets onto the frame axles. allow them to be moveable for adjusting any correction you may need in installing the radius tracks around the sprocket. Also you will need to let the assembled tracks for the sprocket radius to set for about 30min. after gluing to allow them to have a somewhat cured bond with one another before trying to wrap around the sprocket. Remember, the key is patience and patience. We have others on our forum who are far more experienced with indy link assembly who probably can assist you. I hope this will help. Semper Fi, mike
