Squadron Signal publications has three books called Panzer Colors, Panzer ColorsII and Panzer Colors III. You can get them from Squadron.com or by mail. They will give you a very good basic knowledge of the markings you're interested in. Can't afford them all, get Panzer Colors III, it deals primarily with markings.

Well generally speaking this heavily depends on what vehicle you are building, what paint scheme, what time period/theater you are representing, etc. As the war went on and the Germans started losing, tactical markings and other things became less and less prominent depending on the unit and its location.

Have to give more information I'm afraid before anyone can help you on this one.
