william carls (tread ) @ David... : )

David that statement would negate all the fine work being done at  http://www.network54.com/Forum/637977/   and you never mentioned it to D.P. or L.S while they were in that phase of the T II build ?

As far as I am aware, the body of the engine was unpainted due to its high temperature. At first it was made from aluminium, and the Bovington one is an example. Later it was cast iron which is dark in colour.

Thanks for the help! I've painted my engine metallic gray and weathered it with tamiya smoke to make it look used and worn!

I've been looking around on some websites and I've seen lots of different paint jobs for a tiger engine ranging from flat black to silver , this has only made me more confused as to what colour they are as I want to make mine accurate and realistic can anyone help please?

With reference to the Bovington site, there's an excellent book on the Tiger, and to the best of my knowledge it's available only through their gift shop. The title is PzKpfw VI Tiger I Tiger 131 in Pictures. It features literally dozens of excellent color pictures of the museum's restored Tiger I, including interior and engine compartment pics. This book isn't cheap--12.99 pounds, which at the current exchange rate works out to about US $25.00. However, all profits go to back to the museum, so you can take comfort in knowing you're supporting a worthy cause.

I picked up a copy when I was last there and have found it to be an excellent reference.
