M-36 Jackson Completed (10 pics)
Posted by Dwight Ta-ala on Friday, November 5, 2004 6:53 PM
From the dungeons of LEM I bring to you...Big Smile [:D]

The 1/35 Academy M-36 Jackson...

Well I think I'll call her done for now. :Tongue [:P] With no appropriate figures for a diorama, I opted to put her temporarily on a simple base.

So far I can only say the following about this kit:

1.) No major fit problems except that the vinyl tracks are TOO STIFF and TOO TIGHT. If you have this kit I would suggest you go for a substitute for the tracks.

2.) The instructions have some problems but with a little bit of guesswork I think you can get around it just fine. :D

3.) There are a lot of M-10 (for the lower and upper hull only) and M-36 optional parts here. The only sad thing is that they included only 2 bags and 3 jeryy cans for the stowage. So I added some left overs from Tamiya kits.

4.) The hatches will not be at the right position when fully opened so some modifications to the hinge is necessary.

Anyway here are the pics for your reference and comments.

The base is made of styrofoam topped with wall putty. The wall, side walk and road were carved from plaster and the grill is from stretched sprue.

Now I am too lazy to start another project.Big Smile [:D]

Actually, unless it somehow looks a whole lot less attractive in person than it does in the photos, the praise is well warranted. At some point, you could add some guys to enjoy the meal being prepared. I like the dog, presumably attracted by the smell of the chow. It adds an interesting and amusing touch.

very nice build once again dwight. i agree with abarne, the dog is a nice touch. i also like the damage to the wall, it doesn't look like a pink bloob. the iron fencing is cool too. the interior is great, is that included in the kit? the primer looks really good too.

Roy/Captain Caveman: Thanks.

DJ: 1/72? He-he-he. Well I do 1/72 A/C already so I might venture there in future.

Abarne: Thanks. Yeah I am planning to do that once I find a suitable crew set for a dio.

gringe88: Yes, the interior parts came with the kit. Thanks, too.

Increadible build Dwight. It looks great. I hope I can put out such quality work someday.

I do have a question. Is that pinkish color stuff around the engine compartment primer? If so, what is it? And how does it work for you?

Well actually I was told by another member that it should have been white. Intially I didn't have any plan of painting it since it cannot be seen anyway but I had this notion that those areas were painted in red oxide primer (of course now I know I was wrongBig Smile [:D]) so yes the intended effect is that of a primer but it is not a "primer". I used red brown mixed with red paint to get that color.

Thanks.

KIng Thad, Digger : Thanks...I am glad you see it that way.

Larry: Nothing special really...here's how I did it.

1.) Spray base coat - OD.
2.) Post shade the corners, nooks, recesses - OD + Flat Black
3.) Post shade other areas - OD + Flat White
4.) Add chipped paint effect - Grey + Gun Metal
5.) Add wash - Dark Brown
6.) Add streaks and rust - Dark Brown / Rust
7.) Drybrush (only areas most probable gets worn easily) - OD+Flat White
8.) Drybrush (lightly) dirt colored paint on particular areas - Light Brown

There...Smile [:)]

Thanks again all...
