Posted by Anonymous on Sunday, November 7, 2004 2:23 PM
I just returned from Afghanistan where someone had sent me the Tamiya Panzer II Ausf F/G. I waas wondering if anyone out there knew of a good source for resin/PE for this particular piece? ALos a little side bar, which HMMWV does everyone like? I'm planning on doing some HMMWV to represent the ones I deployed with in Iraq and Afghanistan. Thanks ahead of time! SSG Q

WIPW ought to know, he spent about $120 on AM for his PZ II. I have the M1025 Armament carrier by Tamiya. Haven't cracked the lid open, but I like the NATO finish.

Either of the Tamiya Hummers are good kits to start. Blastmodels has some very nice resin aftermarket sets that will give you an outstanding model. I'm not sure of their web address, but I think they can be found at missionmodels.com The Blast weapons set for the Hummer is incredible as is their resin U.S. Marine figure.

SSG Q,

Welcome to the forums! As you can see, lots of folks here willing to help out! The Pz II F/G has been around for a while, so lots of AM stuff to choose from. Check Eduard's home site or one of the online sellers like GreatModels and you should get a good selection.

SSG Q

Welcome home! We're glad your back safe and sound! Thanks for all you did!!

As Eric said, I built the Pz II F/G and put a bit into it, although to be fair, some of that money went toward a couple of books. (Which weren't a lot of help!!) A pic of my finished model is in my sig.

Eduard has a PE set for the the II. It really makes a big improvement. Jordio Rubio makes an barrel. I got one and used it, but I don't like it. I can't find any pictures of a II with a barrel shaped like the JR barrel. Model Kasten makes indy link tracks (plastic), as does Friulmodel (white metal). However, you will either need to modify the drive sprockets or replace them with some white metal castings from Friul. I used the Friul tracks and sprockets. They were well worth it. But you're looking at close about $50 for the two of them. I also bought a resin engine for it, but didn't use it. At the time, I couldn't find any references about the engine compartment.

Good luck with it and let us know how it's turning out.

UPDATE*****

I checked at Great Models.

The Friulmodel sprockets are # AW20, sell for $8.00, and are not in stock.
The Friul tracks are # ATL30, are $37.95 (They've gone way up since I bought them!!), and are in stock.
And the Model Kasten tracks are # SK25, sell for $24.95, and are not in stock.

I've built a couple of Friul sets and find them easy to work with. I've built the Model Kasten set for the Panther, found them fairly easy to build, beautifully detailed, and a pain the the butt to use. (They are very fragile and kept breaking apart on me.)

I believe the engine I got was by Tank Workshop. I found one on Great Models (not in stock, of course). # TW1047 for $4.25.

And one last one, the Eduard set I used is ed35350 and sells for $15. It is not in stock.

Note that all these prices are from GM. Other sites may differ quite a bit.

Mission Models and RJ Enterprises carry most of these sets too, I believe.

I must say I am very suprised at the turn-out for my question. Money is obviously a consideration on a GIs salary, but I also don't like to sacrifice quality....what to do...I wouold like to thank everyone for their kind words, and you tips. I hope to show you all the fruits of my labor real soon. I'm especially lookinbg foward to showing off the "lovely" Hummers we were working with!!!
