Thanks guys.This question has been nagging at me for somw time.I guess the chains must work since I've seen them in every pic of the Merkava.

They protect the turret overhang by detonating shells before they hit it. The little balls at the end of the chains keep the chains more rigid.

These are to detonate RPG's fired from the back. They protect the back of the turrent. (It's a shot trap)

There appear to be short chains suspended from the back of the turret.What are they for?
