MAJ Rob is correct. Units that came from Germany left their vehicles in 3-color NATO camo and used sand or white tactical markings. These include unit numbers and chevrons etc. Sand colored vehicles have black tactical markings. Sand vehicles do not use white markings.

As Rob said any of them who still wore the 3 color NATO scheme would probably have white unit markings and there are alot of these tanks cruising around according to my friend who is a Marine.

I have no photo's of this type of marking. I would think that white would stand out too much ..... but why not, as it is your model! I have checked closely the images from the fight going on right now over there (the town begins with an "F", but I can't get the correct spelling of the name at the moment!!) ..... nothing new. I have noticed though that some of the Arbams tanks are starting to show the NATO camo coming though the sand coloured paint. Looks like the tanks are getting 'sand-blasted' or used alot and the original camo is now showing up.

P.S. If you can get to the CBC evening news show at 10 PM each night, for the last week they have shown lots of feed from the area above. More than the American networks I have seen. It lasts (the news show) for about 90 minutes each night. Lots of great action shots of Abrams and Humvees, and Bradley's, etc!
