M7 B-FIST complete
Posted by HeavyArty on Saturday, November 13, 2004 4:57 PM
Here is my completed M7 B-FIST. It is the replacement for the old, M113-based, M981 FIST-V used by artillery observers in mechanized unit. You may remember the in-progress shots I put up of the full interior earlier. Here is the finished product. It is a vehices from 1-10 FA, 3ID during the invasion of Iraq, 2003. The kit is the new Tamiya M2A2 ODS with added eaxtras and a converted interior to include full turret and all the parts to make it an M7. Also has a converted engine compartment from a Tamiya Marder 1A2.

Enjoy, and let me know what you think.

Beautiful job Gino. If you hadn't said it was a model I'd swear it was real. Just beautiful workmanship. Semper Fi, mike

Another top notch build Gino. Must admit I'm not familiar with the M-7. Still, it is cool looking. Thanks for the pics.

Totally amazed with it... I would like to see the other half of the pix tho! (3 red 'x's). Like Tigerman, I'm unfamiliar with the vehicle... what are the pinkish eraser-like things on the turret stowage bin? Great work and thanks for sharing.

Brilliant. For a split second, prior to my noticing that it was sitting on a wooden table top, I was thinking that you were pulling our legs and posting a photo of a real one!

Don't know why the other 3 pics aren't coming up. The code is correct. Click on the link in my signature box for HeavyArty's Showcase II to see all the photos.

Not sure what you are referring to. In the stowage bin are duffel bags (w/red painted bottom and name and unit stenciled on them), MRE boxes, bedroles, etc.

M7 B-FIST is a specially modified Bradley that has new digital equipment that is hooked up to the rangefinder of the Brad that computes exact, 10 digit grid location data to transmit digitally to artillery firing units for fire missions. It also has 4 radios, instead of the normal two, so the Fires Integration Support Team (FIST) can talk to the forward observers, mortars, Co command net, and FA nets, and a digital radio. That is why there are 4 normal antennas. The shorter antenna on the turret is for EPLRS, which is linked digitally to other vehicles for situational awareness by showing their positions as icons on a digiutal map. It has a crew of 4, driver, radio operator, Fire Support Officer/ Bradley Commander, and a gunner/ Fire Support NCO.

Excellent work, Gino! Thanks for the background, too.
Shooting for another Tamiya award with this one? They still owe you one trip!

Thanks for the quick lesson on the vehicle!
And what I meant about the 'eraser' like items - the pinkish boxes with the text on them remind me of the grade-school rubbers that I used to use. Big Smile [:D]
