How are you assembling the Dragon links? They aren't meant to be workable and should fit heel to toe. I've built the Dragon Hummel and had no problems with them, used regular model cement and had more than enough time to fit them around the wheels as needed before they set up hard.
Be aware that replacement tracks will cost more than the kit and will require their own amount of special work to use, I'd hate for this to be a case of out of the frying pan an into the fire for you. Good luck either way with your build!
