I built the 88, the detail was very good. Some of my parts had warped, I dont know if that was from the manufacturer, or shipping it through the 140 deg temps. Needless to say I think that it built up into a nice model.

it kind of looks like an army patrol hunting the giant dog-beast from Mars down... because of the perspective it kinda looks like they are close to his size...

Looks great, Dale. Wow, what a job you did on that Godzilla sized dog in the 2nd pic. Really some good shading there. But I think you might have gone a little overboard on the scale!! lol

Seriously, your diorama looks fantastic. Thanks for sharing it.

Thanks. Keep giving me compliments like that and I'll make you look at my scifi stuff.

And I needed some good light to take these pics for a friend when I finished it a year or so ago, and I caught my dog in the background by accident. I think it adds style. ;)

I've heard nothing but good things regarding AFV, especially all of their latest releases. I am still waiting to buy the Long Tom, but I've seen many examples of their kits, and all are superb. I think you should keep a lookout for it, as chances are you won't be disappointed.

I built the AFV Club M-18 and loved it. Like the folks mentioned above, it's a fiddly kit but well worth it. FYI, the Verlinden resin interior kit for the Dragon M-18 does not fit well in the AFV Club M-18. :) But the Fruilmodello metal tracks are superb.

Here're some bad pics of the diorama I put it in:

I heard that they are good. I think AFV Club & Hobby Fan models are one company & is based in Taiwan. Hobby Fan conversions are well detailed but are very pricey. The AFV Club M88 cost around US $45. I'd like to get my hands on it though.Evil [}:)]

I don't count them. As long as the kit looks accurate and it's affordable, I'm there.

Exactly! I didn't have the choice for the Pak, so I had to go for AFV club, but when I had to choose between AFV Club and DML for the 251 I bought, I went with DML. It was much cheaper, and I don't think I lost out much on quality. DML offer some really interesting options that you don't get with AFV Club.

AFV Club kits have some of the finest and most delicate detail of any kits currently produced. I've built their Long Tom, 105mm howitzer, and Scimitar. I'm currently working on the Pak 43/41 Scheuntor, and have the LefH18M and another of their halftracks on top of a to-be-built stack. I am really starting to appreciate their foray into the mixed-media type of kit offerings--so much so, that I prefer to build their kits out-of -the-box; they don't really need a lot of aftermarket attention. Overall fit has typically been very good in my estimation, the decals are also quite nice, and the instructions are pretty much on the money. Errors in instruction sheets have seen the addition of errata sheets where necessary (the Long Tom is one example). The only downside is that their plastic is softer than other manufacturer's, and in an effort to get some of that fine detail, they don't use--or seem to use--quite as much pressure in their injection molding processes; hence a greater number of sink marks in unwanted places (Their 6 X 6 cargo truck readily comes to mind).
Please understand that these kits are by no means a "throw-in-some-glue-and-shake-the-box" type of kit. They still take some work to make 'em right, but so does every other kit I know of....

The only AFV kit I have is the new PAK 40 (still in the box). It is a beautiful kit, and seems to be very accurate. On mine, the gun shields came bent in the middle. Could have been packaged a bit better to avoid that, but shouldn't be too big a deal to straighten out.

I just picked up the Pak 40, and it looks really good. The reviews are great. The 251 D is supposed to be amazing. Even though it doesn't have indies, the kit tracks are supposed to be really good.

Sign - Ditto [#ditto] I agree with Maj. Gronovius. AFV Club kits have very good detail and are well engineered (sometimes over engineered). Their recent releases of German WW2 kits are very nice, but I really like their older stuff.

AFV Club has some awesome kits out. The M3A3 Stuart, the Pak 40, M88, M88A1, great kits. Some of their initial kits were Academy kits with AFV bits tossed in (M48H, M113 FSV) but their new stuff is great. I hear lots of good stuff about their new German halftracks.

Their M41A3 Walker Bulldog was a great kit. The M42 will be based off of this kit.

AFV started the am barrel thing and Dragon has totally run with it. I've heard nice things about the Hellcat as well as other armor kits.

I just got the M-18 Hellcat and it looks really great- aluminum barrel, great detail. The barrel is spring loaded so it moves, if you want to pretend it is taking out your 1/35th Panther. The only things I noticed are the rubber band tracks look so-so (replacable) and the bottom of the tank doesn't have any noticable details (not sure what the underside of a Hellcat looks like, but most people don't look at your models underside anyway)

AFV Club models?
Posted by tho9900 on Tuesday, November 16, 2004 8:19 PM
Has anyone dealt with their kits? is it worth the money to buy one?

Reason is they are releasing the M-42 Duster AA Tank soon and I would like to build one of these.... had a motorized Tamiya one as a kid in the 70's and loved the look of it...

Hoping to hear some good reports...
