What in the world is this? I am brand new to armor and picked up Tamiya 1:35 King Tiger. Please help ASAP. Do I paint over it? Obviously I do. Did all King Tigers have this?

First off, it is an anti-magnetic paste used to defeat magnetic mines. ICammo was painted over it. As for did all King Tigers have it, the answer is no. Some Hentschel (production) models did not have it, as it's use was phased out in mid 1944. To the best of my knowledge most if not all Porsche turrets had it, since they were built prior to zimmerit being discontinued. You can replicate it either by using putty or using photoetch or resin parts to simulate it. The putty looks better but the latter methods are much easier.

Jason pretty much nailed it. From what I heard, all or most of the Porsche turrete tanks had it. Zimmerit, was as Jason stated, discountinued in Fall of '44. To some it is easyto replicate zim with various putty, but resin or PE is far easier. The decision is up to you. Good luck.

Hello!
Jason , and "tigerman" " , "hit the nail , on the head ", in reguards to your post . If you are going to use putty , practice , I like to practice on scrap plastic , or disguarded "shurtzen" panels , from older Tamiya kits . And take your time. I have also heard of using liquid glue , and a soldering gun , with a rheostat , ( varies the temperature).

All but the first 3 Porsche Tiger II's had zimmerit. The first 3 were the "Versuchs-Serie" or Trial-Series and as usual on V-S vehicles, did not have zimmerit. The Bovington Porsche Tiger II is V-S #2, hence no zimmerit.
